Thanks a lot for the input guys, as said, I've got a daily now so I won't have to depend on it and yea my 350z is good but does feel a little too civilised for me lol :) very comfy but not loud and harsh haha.

I've just always been tempted and as you've all advised, I will not rush into anything and spend my time looking for one and pay a good amount for one not a cheap one.

Tbh it's either a rx-7 or a r32 Gtr so I need to have a think and get searching :)

GTR all day... You'll get a pretty savage machine for that money and once you've binned the hicas off, you'll have a properly cool car to thrash around in.

No I have owned mine for 7 years and still love it to bits albeit mine is a first gen one, my mate has a FD which the water seals have just starting to go in (but it has been sitting for the last 4-5 years worst thing to do to a rotor is leave it to sit) but has been quoted £1500 for a drive in drive out rebuild which is hardly what I would call wallet busting.
Its just one of those cars that needs to be looked after and serviced regualy then thay will last mine had 100,000 miles on it before its first sign of engine trouble and that has full service history, serviced every 3-5k.

Had S13, S14, E36 325 and now onto my FD3S, is the bets car i've ever owned so far.
    No it won't ruin you.
Yes its going to cost more than an E36 to tune/fix/run.
Yes it'll be more than an S body to keep going.

But in my opinion its bloody awsome fun.

FYI, its stock twins with all the usual common mods done on a remap. Goes very well, and has done for a long time. WIN!

I had an rx7 for just over a year. do I regret buying it? not at all. it put a smile on my face every time I drove it, turned heads no matter where it went. and the noise on boost, well that was just something else.
yes they use a lot of fuel, but if its only an occasional toy then that shouldn't bother you?
as others have said, make sure you get one thats either been rebuilt recently with all paperwork to back it up and have it compression tested.
your other option could be buy one with a blown engine but with good ancillaries-single turbo already etc etc and get it re built?
FDUK is your friend when it comes to the rx7, there are loads of guys on there will a minefield of knowledge. alternatively, speak to some tuners/builders to find out what to look for. drop me a pm if need be

Regarding building engines i had mine rebuilt by RX motors and its still going strong, to boot it was cheap as chips rebuild. i paid about £1100 ( i had a few gaskets and extra bits thrown in too, Tim is spot on)
I put it back together, manual converted it and had it mapped by Hayward Rotary which again i cant fault, those guys did a gd job.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy rotary with specialists like that kicking around.

FD3 RS, RZ or Spirit are all under 1200kg, around 1100kg - to 1170kg depending on extras, they also have the most power in stock form 260 - 280hp compared to the lesser early models.

A new engine from Mazda has a stock compression of 8.3 bar, remember this when buying a car. The closer to that, the better the engine will perform with upgrades and tuning, as already advised there are only a handful of mappers who know what they are doing with a rotary. So look up a specialist for your mapping.

Oil usage is another area for concern, as is premix quite a few people buy these without understanding that the oil is just as important to fill up as the fuel tank!

All I can say is get one! Only recently sold mine and in 3years of ownership only had a clutch pipe split
I drove it like a hoon almost every day and it never missed a beat, like everyone else has said a fresh rebuild with all relevant paperwork and comp test is a must
And fduk is the place to ask anything rx7
It won't ruin your life and you will love every minute of it

    7's is a good solid engine !

It's just an older heavier model.

Remember these are race engines, so need to be warmed to temp, abused and then allowed to cool down. Do not use it to "nip to the shops" as this is the biggest killer of rotaries!
