Yeah... fitting them backwards would mean the tie rod binding and pulling the spacer round - I'd imagine. There is categorically no problem with the spacers. If they're coming loose, there is an underlying issue.
Yep - fair comment. I'd hope that other people have done the same as me then. Not only to show there is, indeed, nothing wrong with the spacers, but secondly, to say that I'm not the only fool in the entire world that has done this? And drifted with it like this?! Haha! Have to say, even thought the car is far out of alignment at the moment, it drives a million times better than before. Steering is super fast & very fluid compared to before. It didn't drive badly with the rack spacers fitted backward, but it drives a load better when using a modified cross member (or indeed, I presume, them fitted correct in the first place!)
I think more the fact that they've been used on our cars, countless FD USA/Asia and European competition/champion cars shows there's nothing wrong with them. They're probably one of our best selling products actually. Or maybe they were all just really lucky.
Top stuff so I need to loom out for some rear s13 callipers or z32 calipers and discs.. Interesting that the z32 are lighter. Want to get unspung weight down.
I have a pair of s13 rear calipers for sale soon (my ones previously in this thread) for sale very soon, fully refurbed (few pages back) And I have a pair of z32 rear calipers for sale also (I bought as spare) PM me if interested
Jesus christ Daze haha - this is why when people ring companies and say "arghhh it's broke it's all your fault" and then get snappy when asked "have you fitted them correctly?" the companies tend to do this a bit. But glad you've got to the bottom of it and at least you were pretty diplomatic with your argument and didn't call everyone a cunt while you did it haha. If your tie rods are now perfectly straight and not angled forwards or backwards the car should be night and day better to drive. Before they must have been at a proper spastic angle with the inner ends trailing the outers which (if my ackermann memory serves me right) will have left you with extremely vague yet safe turn-in but pretty good mid corner steering. Now though you're just going to be like yippppeeeee everytime you steer.
Haha! Yeah man, exactly. Yep! Yeah dude, its done! And fitted. Check previous page lol. And I believe I owe you a pair of offset rack spacers. They're in my car and I'll give them to you when I next see you buddy
DAMN YOU DAVE! You've made me re-read your thread about how awesome geomasters would be on my car I was hitting the lockstops on Wednesday a fair bit too. Car looks awesome dude, and goes aswell as it looks
Haha, sorry mannnn! GeoMasters are insane though, I love them. Wish I bought them years ago!! And thanks mate! --- Haven't updated this in a while, jeez, where have I been? Busy is the word! Had a week off work a while ago now and it was nice to have a full week of non-car-related stuff to take a step back for a moment on it all. However, on September 18th it all came back and I headed up to Santa Pod for a regular DWYB day with some friends. Was a great day, chilled out and having fun with mates. Day started off wet, track was wet, then within an hour or so, went patchy. I really hate Pod when its like this, and was finding it hard to maintain a fluid drift throughout. After lunch is soon dried up though and could really hammer it down. Nailed some runs, which I'm very happy about and I absolutely love the back corner coming into the smaller tighter left hander, with a downshift to 2nd gear. This is the first time that I've done the back corner in 3rd ever as well. Not sure why I decided to over all the other times I've been, but it just felt right, and I felt like I was going a lot faster than I ever have done before. Feels good! Mid afternoon the top track was super busy and I had some tyres on which I just wanted to kill off, so I popped into a play pen for some rolling burnouts lol. Blackett Photography girl got some killer pics though Then back onto the top track Amazing day and the car was absolutely faultless the entire day, which I'm most glad about. Recently I've had issues after almost every drift event that I've been do, but I'm happy with the fact I could drive home fine. This weekend I've done a quick spanner check and look over everything, all seems good. In which case now, this Sunday coming up I am going to Modified Live show at Brands Hatch for a spot on Drift Taxi again! Will give the car a little test drive mid week to double check all is well, then off drifting again this coming weekend. Love it! Finally, here's a video of the day in-car. Attempted some tandem runs with my mate Ryan in the green/blue s14, but wasn't really on it. Not sure if it was me or him, or both, but didn't have much success! Still fun though!
is pod really really bumpy? it looks rough as hell on the car nice steering though i like that fast speed big entry your aiming for. looks cool
It was pretty much as bad as it gets. There is a big hole everyone seems to love driving through too. This was all years ago though, haven't been for ages. It may have changed
Thanks dude! Yeah, Pod is very bumpy. I always say, if the car survives Pod, it'll survive anything! The fast back corner is great fun, tricky when its damp though! YES! You do!! Any help you need just holla mate Yep, same hole! Its kind of impossible to avoid now though, the only part where you can avoid is right up close to those unforgiving concrete barriers, and I've seen many cars completely wrecked from hitting them! Haha! I actually bought it off some dude on SXOC about a year ago. Its got a metal frame on the back which slides into next to where the stereo would be. I've seen them on eBay before, but not all that cheap. I'll have a look in a min and link you dude! --- Got another video to show ya'll. Chase & lead run with Charlie in his silver MX5. Nothing too serious, just having a laugh! Good fun And a couple more photos, a dude who was there who was taking shots of everyones cars. Really amazing photography! Really squatting & sat down on the back on this shot! Love it!
Thanks dude! You're right! Its Lozz's girlfriend. --- Damn, haven't updated this build thread in ages! What's been going on? Well, I've been pretty damn busy with work recently, so not all that much time for the car. However, on the 29th September I went up to Brands Hatch for another Drift Taxi day which was fun. My mate Greg in his MX5 followed me there & back, being the most impractical, yet best drift support vehicle ever! lol. The car was running really great and day started off well, found some photos pop up of the car on Facebook a few days later. However, mid afternoon I went to pull away from the pit lane, and the nearside rear wheel locked up. Bit strange, I thought maybe the caliper had seized on? Got to the pits again to find this mess. Driveshaft CV well & truly exploded this time. I had a spare shaft & CV, but this managed to shear all the bolts (6x2) along with actually bending the output flange of the diff itself! Pretty wild, so that was my day over. Decided to remove the shaft entirely and drive home 1-wheel-drive! Took is slow on the way home, but it drove alright actually. We re-fitted the outer pot to ensure the wheel bearing didn't fall apart on the way home. Oddly enough it actually drove really nicely, apart from pulling to the left a bit, it didn't have the characteristics of a welded diff (obviously, because 1WD) which was lovely to drive with! Anyway, the car now stands in a somewhat sorry state, but there is small progress. I've got a list of things to sort & fix longer than my arm, but to summarise - Bought R33 GTST 4.3:1 ratio diff with R33 output flanges to fit - Bought R33 GTST driveshafts to suit above - Bought s14 non-ABS propshaft to suit above Which should hopefully help, or even solve, all the driveshaft/CV joint issues I've been having. I'm also getting some driveshaft spacers made up by a mate too. - Finally going to fit R33 GTST front & rear calipers, and brake master cylinder - Bought & fitting an oil catch can - Replacing radiator hoses with silicone hoses I bought months ago - Replacing p/steering & alternator belts - Replacing fuel filter - Removing aircon pump, pulleys & all associated pipework, etc Then in December I'm getting all the rust sorted out on the car by a mate, and also getting the rear arches cut out & welded up with better condition rear arches. I can't wait for this, as it'll freshen up the car a lot! Along with the cosmetics, I've sold 2 sets of my R33 GTR rims, and going to keep 1 set for skid wheels. This means yes indeed, I'm changing wheels. What new wheels am I going to run you ask? Well that would be telling Although I haven't actually bought them yet!
