I’ve followed drifting for 4/5 years but I only really invested my time and effort into making it a reality in the begging of 2013. At 19 I passed my test and treated myself to this piece of shit: Not the exact car. Mine was way more badman!! It had a scream mask on the number plate and eV3ryfin! On and my 22[SUP]nd[/SUP] birthday I got myself a Mazda RX7 FD3 I spent a shit ton of money on that and making it near on undriveable over the course of a few years. Don’t get me wrong, I will always have a soft spot for FD’s. I met some of my best friends through owning that car. But the running costs and the fact that I couldn’t drive the car to the limit was getting me down. I wasn’t getting out what I had put in. Eventually I bit the bullet and sold the thing for much much less than I had put in, with a vision to get skidding. The rx7 wasn’t for me when it came to drifting. The lack of the low down torque was shit, and I would cry if I hit it. I wanted a Kuro Black S14a. Never owned a black car. Loved the aggressive look headlights and you could get a reasonable example for under £4k. I’m no mechanic but have a reasonable idea of what I'm looking at, but I am prone to an impulse buy and bought this dog: Made my driveway look awesome until the RX7 sold! So… The car was pretty set up already S14a with about 140k on the clock. Horsham stage 1 HSD HR coilovers. Nearly new! Whiteline anti roll bar. Cusco strut braces. Rota wheels. Big ally rad with electric fan on a switch Rack spacers. I bought some goodies for it because the internet told me to: DW full lower arm kit Dished ebay steerng wheel (Bit wank tbh) 6 x 16” Nissan skid rims. Then cut some rust out the rear arches and plated it up with my dad. Welded the diff up Took that poo spoiler off. Went out. Bit of streeto and blew the engine! Yayyyyyy! Bought a forged engine off here. Fitted that up and it ran wank with the Horsham ECU. Bought an apexi off here had it mapped and it ran better. I still wasn't happy with it though. Didn’t have the same mid range torque. Felt laggy but skidded it anyway! Swapped my rough looking, tatty and faded carbon bonnet for a stock one: Even my girlfriend had a go! After months and months of trying to remedy the issue. Running more boost. Blowing a turbo and replacing that. Going bigger injectors. Getting an EBC blah blah blah £ £ £ later. I decided to buy a stock motor and swap that in. I was convinced it was just the compression ratio and the thicker head gasket. I imagine that engine was built for a drag car and was designed for lots and lots of boost. Bost = money. Id rather take a step back to save pennies. It’s not like I wanted or needed mega BHP I just wanted it to be as responsive as it was when it was stock. When taking out the forged motor we went to swap the clutch and flywheel onto the new standard block… Low and behold the clutch/flywheel don’t fit… A few phone calls with Walton from nizzpro. We figure out It’s got the crank from a Pulsar gtir with a Non VVTI head. Whatever… I sold the forged block to a mate who wanted it for an E30 SR conversion for peanuts but I was just happy to be rid of it to be honest. Went to a few more drift days with a mate. We borrowed an e36 323 BMW from Tom down at POD. Legend of a bloke. Made me really miss my 14… But that was when I see Paul Seddon in his bmw V8 powered S14a…. He was ripping it up and destroying tires for fun… Then I went driftland: I cant stop laughing at that pic and how it warped my mates face hahahaa!!! At driftland there were loads of motors running this V8 conversion!! For reliability. Low down torque and mega sounds and for a reasonable amount of money I could have this conversion done. I was already aware of Clive’s v8 build thread so it was a good place to start. So first I needed a doner car. I present to you: 1998 BMW 540i sport with 6 speed box. Not a straight panel on it. Exhaust was fucked. Wheels were wank. But it was the right price, and was going to serve a purpose. Drove this noisy bitch back from Scotland to London.. Then a few months later from London to Middlesborough with my 14 on a recovery truck so that Team Sunset could work their magic. A matter of days later the v8 was out of the bmw They pulled all the front end off the S14 Engine is dropped in but is sitting on the subframe. No mounts yet... BUT THEN! A week into the conversion now: Cant wait to get her back in a few weeks time.

You raise a very very common argument and I antisipate a lot of hate as a result of this conversion from enthusiasts. A 350z motor and gearbox plus all the wiring that goes with it is a very expensive venture. I acquired that whole bmw for around £1200 It's been done and it's bullet proof.
