I have just put a ca18 in an is200 as a daily drifter. I own a little garage not far from pod so why not. The engine has been stood for 10 years in my dads cupboard under the stairs after the s13 we had got the old Nissan cancer. It was rebuilt an only done 1000 miles in the s13, we where going to put it in a kit car but that never happened If only I could work out how to post pictures????
i am interested in the conversion that youve done. dint think that anyone had done it before. ive got a ca18 that i was going to fit in my is200 for the same reason as you the dreaded rust of death so any advice would be great .thanks
I've uploaded some photos to an album on dropbox. https://db.tt/v3XmGu7x It wasn't to hard to do really. The subframe had to be cut so the engine should sit right but the rest was fine. I made all the mounts out of 6mm steel and high tensile nuts/bolts they don't look great I know (they will). The electrical side of things was a bit of a bitch but only on the Lexus side. The engine ecu only picks up a IGN ON and a start signal its on its own fuse box and only has 4 relays controlling it. You have to run return fuel lines to the tank and use an inline pump or mod the tank sender unit I had a 340lph inline sat bout so used it. Obviously custom exhaust, I had a few old staintess s14/skyline pipes without a home and two 3" flexis so i got the welder out lol And prop that had to be cut an shut. Still needs balancing but can't really feel and vibrations from it. Only the exhaust haha
Cool conversion. Most S13s are fucked and IS200s cost nowt so it's a good call, no point wasting a useable CA18. Lots of room too by the looks of it! He said that bit, just wire in the stock Nissan one, only needs a few wires connected and it runs.
So whats the end result like? How does the car feel? I'm starting this conversion at the end of the week despite people telling me the lexus is too big and heavy for that engine
It's more powerful than the car is as standard so a little bit of a stupid comment to be honest....CA18DET Engines can kick out serious power and the Lexus IS200 isn't really that heavy either so lots of potential!
clearly havnt driven an is200 they have the shittest most underpowered 6 pot 2 litre engine ever made as standard. a lighter engine with close to twice the bhp with a small modifications, damn good idea
