Please Help Hi there, I'm Harry, 16 and I'm looking to go into RC Drift Cars. I'm by no means a beginner to RC Cars having joined a club a while back for a year or so. I know about how RC cars work and the components (like motors, receivers, shock absorbers, wish bones (for jump cars) etc). I also raced at the clubs as well as tweaking and repairing the car too. However my knowledge of Rc drift car, apart from the knowledge above I've said and maybe a bit more, is limited. For example, How do rc drift cars wor, how do they drift? Do they use specialist components? Or are they setup differently? Do they need to be 4at's best? Are there particular tyres you need and what's best? But mainly how do you recommend a beginner to rc drift cars but quite experienced in rc cars to start? (tight budget) I've researched into some of the best cheap chassis and found out stuff way over my price range like Hpi Sprint 2s, TC3s, etc but also stuff like Tt-01s and Tl-01s and Tt-02Ds, what would you recommend as a cheap good chassis (under £100 but maybe in future more to upgrade (good cheap chassis that can be upgraded) Any advice/information would be greatly appreciated Regards Harry
Rc drift cars* How do drift cars work?* Do they need to be 4WD or 2WD or what's best?* But most importantly what and how do you suggest I start (going into RC Drift Cars)?*
They work like a normal rc car but have specific drift tyres put on them. 4wd is best to start with and CS it. YOu can now get 2wd as well
Haven't updated this thread in ages! To be honest because I haven't done much to the car. Just been using it as it is. The wing came off from a crash so that needs fixing, along with the exhaust and both lights. All stuff I couldn't be bothered to fix. But should sort it soon. I have loads of new (concrete) warehouse floor space at work now so should be using it a little more. But im stuck on what to do next to it... any ideas? Im thinking like diy stuff that will make it perform better or look 'cooler'. Anyways more long overdue updates to come.
Right time for an update. Started using the car a lot more in the last few weeks so decided to fix some of the broken stuff. Firstly I refitted the exhaust as it came off in a crash. It held up really well, much better/longer than expected. No pics of that as looks the same as previous pics. The wing has also been on and off numerous times, due to my laziness (super-glue and double sided tape) and lack of driving skill. So I have finally have mounted it with the screws so it *should* stay on this time around. The makeshift bike LED's didn't last long either they fell out on impact. So might retry some new ones with a better fitting technique and POSSIBLY some rear lights to match. The main issue that I have had is the ESC AND the motor are getting really hot after long/hard use and have actually cut out once or twice because of it. It does take a long time to happen but can be annoying in the middle of a session. Obviously there is a cooling issue. I THINK its more the ESC than the motor. So if anyone can find me a fan that fits a dynamite tazer 15t that would be cool. I cant find one anywhere! In the mean time I have made a ghetto cooling duct. I cut out the front of the scoop on the body. Moved my ESC nice and far forward And this is how close it sits to the air scoop duct thing This might work or might be a waste of time - worth a try though right? I'll let you guys know. Also me and a buddy have been working on a track at our work warehouse, so might post some vids of that in here so keep and eye out for that. That's about all for now.
Just ordered...! Weeeelll, the bonnet scoop idea hasn't worked in the slightest the ESC is still getting major hot still. SO, just ordered the Speed Passion Reventon-R ESC and Motor combo, so now going brushless. Also ordered 2 new chargers and 4 more 3300mah batteries so should have loads of track time now. Oh and a full TL-01 bearing set. Will update when all arrives.
So yeah it all arrived. Had one last session with the old brushed system until fitting all the latest stuff. Was driving for about two hours and one the last battery.... my pinion gear and spur gear minced themselves to pieces. So have ordered new steel pinion and speed tuned gear set. Oh and some wheels... and tyres. So will spend an evening or two putting the whole thing together and will document all. Ash.
try adding a fan if things get to hot, as its a drift car, it wont travel fast enough to genorate enough cool air by itself. even real drift cars struggle with cooling sometimes.
Upgrades! Finally got round to doing some work to it. Full bearing kit fitted, look how dirty the old bushes are! Here we have the speed tuned gear set, I wasn't going to get it a first, then the original one decided to tear it self to pieces. So had to get one. Decided to take all the blue tac out of the rear diff that I had locked, (pain the ass), and did what I should have done in the first place and just move the diff parts around to jam on themselves. Oh and I got a new set of wheels for it. Work Meisters in chrome 6mm offset on the front and 9mm on the rear. The tyres are HPI T drifts. Still got the new ESC and Motor to fit. So will update again when that is done. Any suggestions on what to do next?
Modelsport. HPI T-drift Tire 26mm (2pcs) 4406 Only issue was fitting them. I put them in boiling water and the wheels in the freezer and they still wouldn't go on. In the end I got a hairdryer and left it for about 5 mins on the outside lip of each tyre and only just did I get them on. Burnt fingers n all.
at work iv got the choice between polished concrete ( inside) or smooth tarmac ( outside), and when im out and about i got to NCP car parks or supermarkets. really wanna try carpet drifting but for now i love smooth tarmac. im in the farmer land of gloucestershire
Update! Finally got my ESC replaced as the original was faulty. So got that all setup and on, tried to make the cables tidy. Haven't used it at all with all this new stuff yet so should feel well different. Also got the wheels and tyres fitted and done a little detailing to the rear end. Next to come - light and maybe shell. Also, use the thing!
Hey dude looking good Am gonna be building a tl01 drifter soon myself one thing I have noticed though ... When u moved the gearing on the diff you will have unbalanced it meaning all the weight is on one side I think that will have a real effect on this dude don't wanna blow your diff up when you've nearly got it sorted out eh keep on drifting dude
