Ok, not a lot of progress recently. Had to do wiring which i don't understand at the best of times, so i lost all my motivation. Buuuuut went to the finalboss weekender and got some motivation back. Wiring is basically finished now. Wiring loom runs through the chassis leg and into the car. Sits under the dash (roughly) like this So when that's done i can start putting the interior back in, cage etc. And get it ready for paint
Made some progress on the bodywork today, wiring is finally done with. Last owner made a woopsie and bashed the rear quarter in, so there was a huge tear in it and no where to mount the light. So after a few minutes with a grinder with a fucked bearing that nearly made a mess of the quarter window, i was left with a mahoosive hole. Then i drilled the spot welds out and removed the fucked up part of the quarter where the lights mount. Got a new (ish) one to weld in when the glass has been removed. (observe Dan joyce and the obligatory 'ooft manz' pose). Also got a cusco cage ready to go in before i start putting together some form of interior
Ok so managed to make some progress on the quarter this weekend. Spent a few hours getting the rear trimmed to suit. Was a bit of back and forth, trim the panel, test on car, trim the panel blah blah. Eventually got it near enough bang on though I had a go at welding some of it myself but i need more practice on thin stuff so my buddy did it instead. It's basically done, just a few more runs need doing to finish up. What crash? So when that's done,it's gonna be much closer to completion. I have daily coming soon,so i decided to have basically no interior,so that's one less job. Soon be ready to paint, just need to spend on a few new bits.
So today i made some progress. Made the finishing touches to the rear quarter, and bolted the roll cage in place (it's being welded but the bolts are just there to set everything). However! the highlight of my day was this: New 326 coilovers, truth be told they'll go on my daily, but it's still fucking exciting!
So had some time at work today so decided to start an idea i'd been working on for a while. Blanking off the rear quarter windows. Got myself a fibreglass kit off tinterwebz, never made anything from fibreglass before so it was a bit of guess work mixed with some youtube videos. Got the curve of the window right, and it's flexible but still feels strong. Just needs a few mm trimming off and probably some filler work here and there, but pretty pleased with it overall.
So, started to tub the rear arches. I was happy doing it the usual way (cutting the outer skin, cutting the inner skin, bending it up and welding). My buddy joycey decided that way was pikey and shit and that we were going to do it properly. Started off by cutting for 'driftworks' low, quickly surpassed that and went to 'sweg' low. Decided that sweg low still wasn't low enough, so cut some more out. Began welding in the new metal. I didn't do this personally since Joycey is far better at old thin metal than i am. And the result. Found a nice set of 30" spinners that i can probably squeeze under there now.
Decided that the GF might like her car back at some point in her life, so i decided to buy a daily of my own... It's completely stock (literally,it's still got a casette deck for fuck sake). Got a whole load of little dinks in the body,so at some point i'll sort that, then book it in for a blow over in the same colour.
