Hi all not been on here for ages but back in the car game now. I have a 1957 100e i am building I started to build a pinto but the block is knackered so I've decided to go a different direction. I've been thinking 4age or 3sge I'm not fussed about turbo as I've been watching vids of 20v 4age's on throttle bodies. I don't have a huge budget at all but I'm happy to a lot of the work myself. Any advice would be great.

If you go 4Age it will still cost a chunk tbh as all the little bits add up then it will still be slow.

If it were me, and I wanted good value/performance, I would go CA.. You can pick them up for pennies, build it nice and solid (Ignore the internet, they are a great engine if you look after it). You will have the option to go more power in the future, cheap performance parts, lots of availability and the engines themselves are nice an revvy. at 250hp it will last forever and be like a rocket in your chassis.

Look at how Tom "Rusty" (tommahawk on here) has got on with his.. It is an awesome little car with the CA in it compared to the SR.

This. If you're gonna run throttle bodies it will be as expensive as a turbo, since you'd still need standalone etc. The Volvo engines are cheap, can be tuned with the standard ECU, are bullet proof to over 400bhp and bolt to Omega boxes, which are cheap and strong enough for your 100e.

No bigger than any other 4pot really. Just sits at a slant making it look big.

I picked up a 940 turbo for £200 pulled the loom ecus engine and box and sold the shell for £50.
You can up the boost with a set of chips and see 220bhp.
Or buy rods for £200 bolt on a huge turbo and make 500bhp.
    Simple reliable power.

Any build projects for these? Sounds interesting and different to the normal. Zetec/Vauxhall stuff.

Turbobricks is a big volvo forum. One thought, for example Saab engines are also 4pots, but they are very very heavy. Cast iron block, a very big and heavy cylinderhead. I don't know but I'm guessing that the Volvo engines are heavy also. On this small car I would go with something that has an aluminium engine block.

To be fair ^^ That Beams engine is a great idea, rare but an awesome engine. It's like a 4Age but with actual power
