I might be buying an exhaust mani which has already been ceramic coated by Camcoat on the external AND internal surfaces. Camcoat say they have never had any problem in 20 years with internal ceramic coat coming loose and damaging turbine blades, and that if the coating does break down it atomises into dust. Zircotec (Who's process is not suitable for internal coating), claim that internal coating can come loose and cause damage. Obviously both companies have something to gain by making these statements, so can't really trust either. Does anybody have any real world examples of problems with internal ceramic coating? Cheers Dan
So cant really compare how each will react. Really all you can do is try it, unless you can somehow remove it all from the insides...which wouldnt be an easy proposition.
Yeah, I'm not really trying to compare the two, just want to know if anybody has experienced this potential problem of the ceramic flaking off and causing damage. I only mentioned Zircotec because they are claiming that applying to the inside will cause a problem, so may be the cause of the rumour
Ive never understood how any coating would stay on the inside I know my friends 2jz manifold it started to show metal in places after a about 2 years but that was on the out side. So with in mind ive always used more expensive wrap and heat shelds
Well and the fact that unless there isa way to remove the coating 100 percent its time to bin the manifold else you will be forever rebuilding/buying new turbos
Well only if it is proven that what camcoat say is incorrect. Haven't seen any evidence yet. I haven't bought the manifold anyway and have continued to work on my own instead. But would still be good to hear from anybody who has had the internals of their manifold done before and see of they have/have not had any problems
If you havent bought it yet then it is a non issue. Dont buy it unless the internal coating can be removed.
