Hi all, has anyone ever fitted the 3 litre engine from the E46 330 into an E36 318is with the 1.9 litre engine in it?

M54b30 into e36 had been done but it is not plug and play. Mechanical is not that bad but electrical is bit worse Google is your help.

Why, not just be a 330 e46 their cheap enough these days, probably cost you just as much if not more by the time you fit that engine into an e36 plus all the agro involved.

If you pull the full loom from the 46 I can't see it being that difficult.
But as above unless your e36 is something special just drift the 46.

All it is is I've heard the e46 are terrible to set up for drifting!! Or is that a load of cap? And by the way I have quite a few bmw's e36 and E46's and just not sure on what to do!!!

Sounds like you have all the gear without any idea.
The 46 will drift fine. The 36 is prefered but not a million miles different.
Are you just learning to skid?

Hi Andy I started skidding about 4-5 years ago but I've only ever used skylines and then I've had some serious health problems which are now all sorted, so I've not done any sliding now for about 3 years and need to get into it again desperately! Lol

U can do this get a m52 or m50 engine from the 2.5 or 2.8. Swap out the crank rods and Pistons from the m54b30 and you will then have a 3l engine that will be an easier swap to but into your 318 chassis

After a lot of research I've decided to stick with the e46 and not bother with the e36, does anyone know what gearbox will fit to the 330 engine that will be better than the one that comes as standard?

What I know is the standard getrag gearbox is very strong so you don't need to swap it
