International forums probably have these rules to aid communication with non-native English speakers. The only legitimate excuse for using text speak is owning a Nokia 3210 on a 300 texts a month tariff.

I've seen some abbreviate & asked why?, to be told it's quicker to type doesn't quite work out when they've also included extra letters in other words, seee, yeahh,cooolll, along with plenty of.!!!!!!!! They then look at you like your from another world when you mention the time they have saved on some words they've lost adding on others..

Its the 21st Century where your phone spells things for you, there's no excuses. This only used to be a thing when you was 15 and trying to sext up a bird on your nokia n402 but you run out of characters making your text cost you 20p instead of 10p which means you couldn't buy a freddo!
