Hi, in the unfortunate position of needing a replacement engine for my LandRover Disco 4 (3l). I was due to deliver it to Global Engines tomorrow (quoted £2,995 plus VAT fitted). Looks like you guys have saved me. Have just watched the watchdog report as Global trading under their previous name Ideal Engines.
But where else can I go??
MKL Engineering (Grays, Essex) seem also to talk a good game (quoted £4995 plus VAT fitted) 7 - 10 day turnaround but how do I know they won't be just as bad !! :( :( :( Advice someone please ??? :worthy:

Look around and get a couple of quotes, double check each company to make sure they've not got a poor reputation like Global Engines.

    Another quote ..

Now these guys have quoted £3,000 (with £450 refund on my engine ..

Can collect in 2 days or deliver in 3 days.

Not bad price but, I asked the question why the 2 – 3 days if in stock, he told me they have to check that the engine they have is exactly the correct one for my vehicle. It takes them 2 days to check comparing pictures from their laptop to the engine they have. If it isn’t a match they have others ‘on the shelf’ that might match.

Just sounds dodgy but what do I know? :(

No thats means it usually takes 2-3 days to track the engine down at a breakers yard.

They won't have anything on the shelf, they'll buy it out of a yard and sell it on.
If you're lucky they might check it over first.

I see... that's what I thought was the case .. :( Am not too worried about a dodgy engine as long as it runs, just don't want to wait weeks and weeks after they've taken my money! .. waiting in the hope they find one ..

Can you not find an engine at a breakers, have it removed and delivered to a garage of your choice?
Find an independent with 4x4 knowledge

Speak to 4W motors in Solihull near Birmingham 01564 703337. I have known them for many many years and they will offer a good service at the right price.

Ouch, most garages that's body off hence such big 'fitted' prices. It is possible to do it out the top mind but it's tight! Has yours been looked at? Is it all scrap or jus bottom end? Can it not be rebuilt then you keep engine number etc?

Andy, just found our local breakers.. helpful guy but you won't believe it.... he's told me he's looking for a Disco4 engine for his own vehicle ! He's been in touch with a company in Essex who have taken his money for a recon engine and not delivered... he's in a horrendous position .. we wished each other the best of luck. He believes the company he's dealing with are the same one I came across today trying to get me BBC One - Watchdog - Ideal Engines and Gearboxes
My 9 hrs trawling today shows they trade under about 10 different names across the internet, ebay etc ...

You could try u-pull it, not sure if they will post an engine though.
Must be more than one land rover breaker, maybe try a discovery or offroad forum.

We were offered £15k for it from the dealership a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for all the help, have now decided to sell it privately obviously disclosing the broken engine and cut our losses :(

I'm so happy that you've avoided Global Engines & Gearboxes. Like a few guys have said above, see if an actual Land Rover place could do a rebuild and get it running again. 6 months down the line after I got screwed over by Global I was speaking to a BMW specialist who said that they could have rebuilt it rather than go through the hassle of replacing.

This day and age I'm surprised that someone hasn't suggested putting a 2JZ in it. :D

Recently the 3.0 engines have been renowned for letting go, cranks snapping is a big one. Anything that requires work on the engine/ turbos is a body off job for the Disco and RRS. I recently spent 4k having both dynamic ARB's replaced on my RRS that had only done 60k and the worry of the engine letting go pushed me to sell it.

Speak to MMP, theyre a LR specialist and have an excellent reputation on the RRS owners forum. Theyre in Scotland but I'd be willing to travel to know the work is done correctly. Other than that I'd speak to Alive Tuning in Lincoln, another specialist who have a good rep and I've used them before for remapping on my Sport
