Not the most reliable, look at mx5's, e36's or is200 for a first car.
You want something you can get seat time in not be fixing every drift day.

It's kind of true, if you don't step outside your comfort zone you'll not improve.
Depends where your going to learn, if the tracks forgiving then you'd probably be fine in the 330 so long as you don't try to be a hero.

Nothing wrong with rx8 reliability if you look after them, if you have balls they drift fine and are a far better drive than a 330c also easier to work on!

They are great chassis, very easy to slide with 60+psi and some clutch kicking. just like a big MX5 but a bit faster and a bit more predictable. Parts are really cheap and since everyone blew up their engine there are people giving shit away.

Downside is that the 6 speed box is very weak, 5 speed box ratios are very long (in the 231 version), clutches don't last long, fuel doesn't last long, engines don't last long and I found it difficult to get aftermarket parts I wanted like 2 way diffs, lock mods or styling

just get an mx5, is200, bmw or anything without a turbo to learn on as it will save you lots of cash

It will only be used on track to drift nothing else and if it last 6 months to get my foot in the door i will be happy im used to driving flat out as iv been doing track days and banger racing with the old man for years gave the bangers up as i was sick of rebuilding a new car every time and as the fella said only thinking the rx8 coz there as cheap as chips if i can get a £ 700 drift car and smash it that wont bother me but getting a mx5 for less then 1500 aint easy

Problem with the cheaper ones is they will all have fucked or close to fucked engines because not many people listened to mazda when they bought the cars new.

I was considering rx8 for my first car, but fuel wise and tyre wise are more expensive than an mx5. I have an mx5 as my first drift car, and it is better to learn in a weak car because it allows you to focus on your technique. As for other options you can use an s13-s15 NA thought. If you insist on rx8 try to find one that is model after 2009 because Mazda did some serious engine improvements on those models to help the reliability of the engine.

I always think look st what's around you. It's nice to be different but there is a reason why 90% of people buy old e36/46 or mx5 to learn in. Equally, each to there own. If the rx8 is what you want then get it mate. At least you will stand out at drift days and not get lost in the crowds of bimmers
