Please take your time updating this, I still have a few more bottles of lotion and tissue boxes to finish off
This is mental, I wish I had some fabrication skills, I'm epic at Lego with my kids mind . Keep it up dude, it's a cool build.
The fitment using the mounts wasn't great, engine was sitting tight on subframe, I also wanted to have some bushed mounts so built my own
Lo thanks, Yea I will do, things are a bit slow resantly due to lack of time but will do some soon Thankyou, it'd not that hard if you have the time and space to have a go. If you can weld the rest is easy. Yes I would possibly sell, once i remove it ill take some pics and send them to you, it also work fine on the car.
Thanks! Makes it less plug and play of course, not what I hoped to hear as I will have to get everything done by a shop
You could always space the Collins mounts using a rubber block or something, it just needs to sit off the frame
been a long time since update, plans have changed, broke V8 went back SR Let's get this build back on track. Now this 200 is not having a V8 Started on finishing the underside as I already had it in stonechip, just wanted to cover it in something that wouldn't stain and was glossy. The steel fuel lines are very badly corroded and when I removed them one broke, good reason for braided lines. I also needed new fuel tank straps, easy job really. In the engine bay I did tubs and planned to move the fuse box for V8, However now I need it I had to modify one tub to mount the box, I could then get it rubbed down ready for high build primer and paint
Long overdue update I've now got the bay painted after doing all metal work and smoothing some holes. I decided on metallic black Trusty Booth set up In zinc 182 primer then high build and flatted back Next job was putting it back together. Decided to colour code some bits in the bay. Braided Brake lines fitted (ABS delete) Few more bits added Thanks to limitless imports for the skid plate Engine next. I've gone back to the SR, as with my V8 14 and skyline I fancied keeping this economical lol The engine itself seems heathy enough so decided not to rebuild it just yet (ain't broke so why fix) Once the car done it will be next job in pipeline. So for now the engine needs a paint as it doesn't match my bay colour as it sits After lots of rubbing I got the engine and box painted, the block was to hard to remove the red so left it And with a little help got the engine in
Now the engine in I started on dreaded bodywork, Bloody hate endless hours of rubbing down. Last time i do this to a car. So the rear arches was the first part to mod. I planned on getting wide wheels and ended up buying some SSR Diablos. When I fitted them there was a bit of poke so needed to do something. I've already got 50mm over fenders fitted but wanted to have them a little wider again and to have a unique look. I ended up buying some arches for a 13 of a local chap and after a bit of cutting got them to fit tidy. This has given me +30mm over the 50s I already had, so now at 80mm.
Couple more pics of arch work. Because I never removed the windows when fitting overs last time I also had to blend the top in. Pics also show the arch comes down onto the skirt. The next part in this tread is now on to diffusers. Before I start I haven't done these for any reason other that cosmetic and don't care if they help with aero or not. I've had a couple of comments about the rear in past and I Amit myself it a little farmyard spec and heavy (weighs a little more than spare wheel) But it done now so on to it. This picture has been inspiration throughout my build. I'm not copying it exactly but I did want a large diffuser like it. I haven't taken many pics while building it, mainly as it was only originally a mock up Piece to get a idea and get remade later so I know it a little rough. It was made out of scraps I could find for the frame, mainly 15x15mm box and clad in 3mm alloy. Finished it weighs in at 19kg As you can see originally I was going to use standard bumper but was convinced one day that it looked ****. I then decided to use the fiberglass bumper instead . So after cutting and some fiberglassing I came up with this. Another part that took a lot of fiberglassing as had to make it without a guide. ATM it in primer and haven't taken anymore pics until it done
Next was the front end starting with diffuser. I fancied something in your face to match the rear so look to cutting the bumper and making this. Huge air ram After a bit of trimming I mounted it to Bumper and is now once piece That is as far as I've got with them bits
The best bit now Paint time. I've only painted the car itself so far, found I easier and a better job to paint with doors off etc. once this flatted and mopped ill do the next batch and then assemble it all. The makeshift booth ain't that big so can't fit it all in at once. High build primer was the first thing to do, this gives me a chance to see any problems as I sand it down. This is one of the worst jobs to do IMO, flatting high build takes bloody ages. The colour I chose was one I picked years ago for a civic I was doing but never finished. Chrysler tangerine orange is the colour and is a single phase colour. It really pops. Now this takes us up to now. Hopefully have the car in full paint by end of January.
Been a couple of months since last update and loads have happened. A page ago I showed some pictures of the wings I had modified. I had cut and pulled the back out, this however caused them to go out of shape and didn't like the finished look. I decided to get new wings, I did have some metal 14.5 wings that I then decided to modify. Used bmw front wing flares and welded them onto the wings. After these are done they will be 45mm wider both sides.
Getting the wide wings finished now means I have a problem with the bumper, it needed to be trimmed so the wheels wont catch. I also wanted a nice flow. For years I've had this awful civic bumper kicking around and one day thought that will look good. - So I cut out the top corner and set about glassing it to the bumper - Few pics to bring up to date. Bonnet vent was made using shitty dmax style vent that was all over the place. Cut it out and made my own. That was front end in primer, fair bit of flating
Car was then put on road. Had a good bit of fun in it but did have issues. Was good to finally drive it tho. Few pics from days out
After a month or so I hated the Crome wheels, had to paint them. Went black, so much better and made jap day.
