So i headed to lovely canvey island to see Darren and pick up the spit for the car. So i ran down one friday afternoon. Me and darren talked a good build. I had another look around his car and see how he had progressed. Then i loaded the spit and headed home. Then as per usual. The m25 had my pants down. {} That fucking sucked. All because some moron couldnt drive in a straight line on a motorway and crashed into the barrier. Dickhead. Eventually i got home way later than i should of. The next day i headed up to the unit. With the aim of getting the car on the spit and moved in the workshop just to make better use of the space in the shop. For some stupid reason i parked my car across the workshop when i moved it in but it bugged me for a long time. So i hung the car off the engine crane and proceeded to spend the day scaring the shit out of myself. {} Then got the car on the spit pretty painlessly. {} Then we decided to put the car at 90 degrees and take a look at the bottom. This is where shit got scary. So we got the car at 90. Put the pin in. Went to let go of the car. The pin that held the car at 90 degrees immediately sheared. Adam tried to stop it and the car Dragged Adam under the car nearly breaking his shoulder and nearly smashing the roof of my car into the floor. The world fell out my arse. Now. Everyone was ok. No one got really hurt. The shell survived. Adam just pulled his shoulder and is now all ok. But holy fucking shit that was sketchy. However seeing as the car was now completely upside down had a look at the rust situation. {} I proceeded to pull a massive hole in the rear quarter. {} {} That was a little worse than expedted but not the end of the world. It will get the same treatment as the other side. {} Another rusty sill. {} More additional ventilation holes. Not ideal but oh well. {} Ewww This was the bit I dislike the most. {} Some dirty blisters on the chassis rail. Oh well more welding required but i will do my best to crack on asap. Took a photo of the workshop. Should be busy few months in here for us both. {} So thats where we are up too.
Also i must add. I know why i fucked up with the spit. I haven’t got the weight of the car in the center of the rotation. I need to move the car up/down and figure it out.
Loving the build mate, an r32 would be a dream car of mine but still stuck on weather to get one or not. It’s a choice of putting an rb25 in my s14a or saving for an r32. Keep at it though, looking good
I desperately need to update this but i have gotten onto the other sill and let’s just say shit has got real. {} Real fucking rusty.
So. Long time no update, I wish I could say it's on the floor and rolling. However that is not the case. Last time you saw the car it was upside down on the spit, now, I came back to the car a week or so later and the car was a lot closer to the floor than when I left. So immediate action was taken as the spit was bending and I had no interest in fixing a roof. So it was taken off the spit and placed on tyres so we could keep going on this bullshit rust. So Ed came back and chopped some big holes in my car. I was somewhat disappointed when I saw the rust on this side and had considered looking for another shell. Ed had other ideas. {} Ed hacked this sill off. The aim of the game on this side is not to piss around. We were trying to do everything in as large panels as possible. So the mission was find rust, fuck it off out, replace. {} {} {} This is what greeted us. So the grinder fired up and more Nissan needed sweeping up. {} {} That was as far as we got that day. The next day when I got to the workshop Adam was already there. I walked in and was greeted by this image of Adam chopping massive holes in his perfectly fine s15 {} Turns out this is the face you pull when you chop holes in in you pride and joy. It fucking cracked me up. The prick looks like a fucking minnion in those glasses hahahaha. {} Onwards we started remaking what we chopped out. I didn't take too many photos of the rear sill rebuild. {} {} So that was everything tacked up for the rear half of the sill. The floor was all 1mm and the inner sill was made of 2mm Then onto the front half now the car had been up a kerb at some point because the sill and floor was all bent in and in course it had rotten. So we started by chopping anything brown out and anything bent. {} That was the start point, then we (Ed) chased a bit more rust. Real comfy grinding positions. {} I'll be honest with you, what followed, scared the shit out of me at first. {} That's a big fucking hole. {} Big enough for someone to climb through. However there was a plus point. As long as I've known this car it's had hideous pedal covers. But whatever kong fitted them rounded all the bolt heads so I could never get them off. However with this mild adaptation to the floor we made, pedal covers were delt with in no time. {} Both simple and effective. So following this we had to sort our small access hole. {} Now before the restoration experts start crying that it's not as strong as factory because it has none of the bead rolling In it, shhhh I'm aware of that, that's why what we cut out was 0.8mm and what we made it from is 2mm. Also we made it flat because it wasn't worth the hassle making it look factory because this is a drift car not a oem restoration and once the cage is welded in the factory carpet will be cut to fit. So you won't see it. We remade the inner out of 2mm too. I didn't get any pictures of it tacked so this is it fully welded. {} {} So that's where we are up too with the shell. Next is to put the outer sill on. Then finish the rear tub and pocket. Then that's all the real tricky shit done. Then it's onto the chassis rails. However it won't be massively challenging as its all nice flat square pieces. Now this may not seem like masses of progress for 2 months work. However I've been busy buying parts. {} I got an excellent deal on some comp clutch stage 4 rb25 clutches for me and Adam. Also I've now got a full weld in cage thanks to Fabricage who bent me up everything and notched it all for me for a great price. I also have bought myself a brand new Link G4+ because obviously when still on the fabrication stage you need a standalone ECU haha. So yeah, I'm a slack fuck and haven't updated this enough, but don't worry you missed fuck all. This is where I'm up too and seeing my current track record I'll updated this again about November haha. In all seriousness I'll try not to be so slack, mainly because it's a fuck ball ache doing this in one go on an iPad Haha. So long fuckers.

So a quick update. Last Friday I went on a parts collection mission. I started by going and picking up some bits for Ed who has been a hero for my build. So I picked his 6boost and wastegate for his forged jz. {} Then I went on to pick up all my powder coated suspension that you saw me do earlier at my buddy Ash's shop. I had left it there for safekeeping so I didn't scratch it to fuck. However he has a project to work on so needed the space. So I brought that to my unit. {} {} I also popped to see Tom Hudson at Hudson Speed Shop. Although he won't be mapping the car. He had a cracking deal on Link 300zx plug in ECU's. now I know you are going to be wondering why the fuck I have bought a 300zx ECU for an RB25 powered car. The answer is simple. I saved around £800 by doing so on a brand new ECU. There are only 8 pins different in a 300zx plug in ECU compared to an RB25 one. They all relate to the coil packs. So you repin the 8 pins of the RB25 ECU plug you need to change to suit the 300zx pinout and you're away. {} About ready to fit that I reckon. I also bought a rear BN bumper for cheap, because it came up cheap and was on the way to Spring Matsuri which I was going to the next day. It's got a few cracks and holes here and there but perfect for mocking up and I will repair it and keep it as a spare for when I inevitably ruin the new kit I will buy for the car before I paint it. {} So onto the Saturday. Went to the unit with Adam who is balls deep in his RB swap. Ed came down yet again because he is a fucking hero. {} Mine and Ed's mission was to get the outer sill on the 32. However I also had some welding for Adam. So I got started on that straight away. I welded up Adams new 4:1 r33 diff. Then I welded up some cracks in his rear subframe and welded a bit of bracing into it. Meanwhile Ed made rear panel to cap off the sill at the rear wheel arch. It was made with plenty of excess to be able to trim it to fit the outer sill perfect. {} Next after that, which I didn't really show on the other sill, we welded in a piece of 50x3mm CDS the full length of the sill. It is fully welded either end and stitched along its girth length the idea being on top of a cage it will add a bit of stiffness, also it will spread the force of an impact throughout the whole sill hopefully meaning it should protect the car and me from too much side intrusion. (This is all a theory) {} Then it was onto outer sill. First we treated and painted the inside of the sills. {} Then whilst that was drying I braced up the rear lower arms I shortened. {} They can now be shot blasted and powder coated ready to have new bushes and ball joints to go in. They actually are one of the few parts I need to order along with kinked tension arms and front upper camber arms to make the car a roller. Then we went on to tack the outer sills. After fully treating all the innermost sills. {} Then we fully welded and cleaned the, back as best as 1mm steel allowed. {} Then fully treated the outer. {} Then we went to Nando's, which seems to of become a post build day trend for us. The following day we headed to Matsuri to gain some more motivation and to see the 2018 drift season kick off as such. So that's where we are up too currently. Now me and Ed had a chat and decided we a fucking bored of welding rust, so we are going to sack that off for a while. We have decided, mainly due to our impatience and because the shell is nearly solid bar capping the front of the sill, finish the rear tub and pocket and rust fixing on chassis rails which we think should be easy. Our next mission is to fit something fun, this {} We have a massive metal jigsaw puzzle that should be r32 shaped, so next time we are working will be to fit the cage. I can't wait. So since my last post a few things have happened. First thing being BDC round 1. {} Which as always was fun to be a part of. I even got photographed thinking about the burger van. {} Onto the 32. So i have bought a few more parts to the puzzle. {} Like Christmas i went away for a few days and came home to parcels all over the place. We had a nice near new driftworks harness. {} Hidden underneath that was a outlaw products Freddy. {} Excellent. Also i had ordered a few things ready to do the big metal climbing frame inside my car. {} 50 cutting discs {} And 4 wire wheels, which me and Ed have re name scary wheels, because they are fucking petrifying. Bizarrely it then snowed in March, which is wank. However somehow it managed to snow inside our unit. {} I have also shot blasted all my lower arms. {} I then powder coated them gloss grey. {} So they are ready to go, I’ve ordered the balljoints i just need to order the bushes and I’ll get them prepared. Adam dropped my engine in his 15 just to check clearance on everything before he painted the bay. {} Onto the 32. I got there Saturday morning and got the doors off ready to start putting the cage in. {} {} Then it was onto the stage that i had been shitting myself about for some time. Removing the windscreen. Now it already has a small crack in it however im hoping to be able to put it back in. I was more nervous about any hidden nastyness under the glass as ive seen a few 32’s lately that are completely rotten under the glass. {} The glass came out and...... {} There was no aids hiding underneath. Solid as fuck. That was a great relief. Then we set to the cage itself. Starting by chopping the main hoop down. {} Then we spent a fair amount of time studying the BDC rule book and what they stipulate for cage boxes, deciding a design and building it. Sounds like a 5 minute job. Not so much. However they are really nice looking and not massively intrusive. {} {} PS thats Ed’s vape. Im not a bender The next step was to get the main hoop up on the boxes and tacked into place so we could start to measure the front legs and get them notched to fit. {} The stipulation for me was the car has to retain the factory headliner because i fucking hate cars without them. Then we got the front leg in and measured and notched. Tacked in and this is how it sat. {} {} Nice and high and not too intrusive into the cabin space. Then we did the same on the other side. {} Then it was onto the windcreen bar. Which was something Ed was pretty nervous about notching. As we only had 1 and you only really get 1 shot at notching it well. Ed nailed it as usual and we tacked it in. We then pulled the cage boxes out the car and dropped the cage down so i could weld the tops of everything. Which was fine. I then put some primer on the top of the cage as once its lifted back up into the car i wouldnt be able to paint the top as it sits up against the headliner. {} {} {} We then lifted the cage back up into the car, slid the cage boxes back in and moved onto the rear stays. We chipped all the sound deadening off the rear tub, cut a plate to mount the rear stay to also i hate when cages done land in the middle of the spreader plates so we took some time to measure up and make sure the rear stay would land bang in the middle of the plate, tacked the plate in place and i welded it in. {} Welding 3mm to 0.8mm steel sucks length by the way. We then tacked the rear stay in place. {} So i welded it up. {} {} We then repeated this on the other side. {} {} We then chucked some primer on anything we had welded. And fucked off to Nandos. This build seemingly some what sponsored by nandos at this rate haha. Next weekend we are back on it so should get the cage finished all going to plan. The only thing that wont be done are the door bars as the cage came with cross door bars. However i dont want that style so i need to measure up and get my mate to bend me some door bars in the style i want. Either way. Thats where we are up too and hopefully i will update you with more progress next week. Later fuckers.
So, myself and Ed have been busy once again with the 32 cage. {} The harness bar and diagonal were the next step of the cage. Following that we then spent a long time getting the other half of the cross notched and in perfectly. {} We got it all welded up. Then onto getting the main hoop cage boxes welded in. Then we realised we needed a porter power to push the main hoop into place on the cage boxes. However we didnt have a porter power. So some we got creative and notched a bit of tube to fit and welded it to a bottle jack. {} Worked a treat. Got the hoop tacked up and then fully welded. {} {} Then we made and welded the front cage boxes. The idea was to keep the boxes nice and small so the arent too intrusive in the car. {} {} Lovely job. We then had some daily issues to sort for Ed so that was that for the skyline. I need to measure up and bend up the door bars. Also got a main hoop lower brace and main hoop to rear stay bars to go in but they cant go in untill we know where the door bars are going to land. So yeah thats it where we are at. Feels good to do something other than rust. However still a long way to go before its a roller again. Later fuckers. {}
