Small update, I got engaged, so money is mostly being spent on paying for wedding celebrations - which sucks for my car! BUT I did manage to put some parts on it this weekend to try get it closer to paint, which a few friends have lovingly agreed to paint for me if I can buy materials, and I'd like nothing more than to have the car at the wedding, so that's my goal! Put my Vertex skirts on (off a 2door coupe cut down) Put my type M spats on Lowered the rear a bit more {} A while back I bought a pair of Enkei Peaks I owned many moons ago, so I've dropped those off at a local bead blasting place to have them cleaned up and powder coated ready for the 5 stud swap, as well as my calipers which will be being rebuilt... {} But to save time, I bought a set of good used S14 front brakes, which can be thrown on alongside the hubs and wheels so no messing around worrying if it will work or not, and gives me extra time to rebuild the old calipers. {} So, it'll soon be 5 stud front, rear is on the to do list, prepping the body for paint is the number 1 priorty for the moment!! Also chose a colour, eBays very finest BMW San Marino Blue haha - something like this I hope! {}
Wheels and my old brake calipers have been blasted and powder coated These are some photos from the production, still need to pick them up, put new pistons in, reassemble the wheels etc, but that will be later this week {} {} {} {} Also turns out the enkei wheels were welded after construction, so they wont be made any wider, which I'm fine with cus tbh, I don't need them to be any wider
Cut the welds carefully, clean them up when they are apart and then seal them with proper wheel sealant.
Genuinely always loved that car, and in many ways is inspiration for me - albeit with slightly different wheel colours cus I don't wanna have to clean my wheels every day lol. This is the colour/aimed end result of the wheels, but with shiny bolts - the current bolts have been blasted so I need to try polishing them up when I have chance. {} And started to tinker with the brake calipers too, bought a rebuild kit from eBay which seems to have everything and fits correctly - link here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRONT-Br...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 {} Had to buy an M10x1.0 tap for the bleed nipples and brake line pipes cus annoyingly some paint had gone into the threads and I was too scared to send the bolt incase it cross threaded f'd up the caliper. Also need to blow out any of the excess bead blast media which is currently floating around inside the calipers!
Another quick and pointless update. Kind of.. I had a slow puncture on one of my front tyres which I was having to inflate every day, losing up to 30psi a day. This was annoying and worrying too, as the car is used daily and I put my daughter into it, I didn't want to risk a blowout or any danger to her, so it left me with two options. Option 1: fit a new 225/45 tyre to the XXR wheel Option 2: use the 2 new 215/40 tyres I already owned on my 5 stud Enkei wheels and swap to 5 stud. So needless to say...I fitted all the 5 stud front end to the car. Using the other pair of calipers I bought whilst trying to find time to service the powder coated set, allowing me to fit the Enkei wheels and tyres.. off with the old! {} and on with the new! {} Also featuring a set of new eBay front camber arms, the modified knuckles, the adjustable tension rods, and brakes ofcourse. A little ride height adjustment, and found it to be pretty much on the bump stops.. {} so adjusted it up a little bit {} Next job is the bodywork, cus once that is ready, it can get painted.. which is the bit I'm most looking forward to.
Another short and sweet update- Caught up with Ryan Asquith who bought my spare door for when he paints his 4door - cars parked end to end I got jealous with how high mine was on the back and had to do something about it haha.. {} Went back to Steel front wings, fitted the genuine GTR bumper, put the spoiler back on, and lowered the back ever so slightly more {} {} also purchase a pair of new wheels for the rear from Driftworks JR wheels sale - which hopefully arrive in the next few days so I can throw some tyres on and mount them up, likely having to pull the arches more before making the decision of how to go about fixing them!
Yes most likely, which bits would you be interested in? - its all sat on the floor of my shed at the minute hah
Got some tyres fitted (or 1 at least) to the jr26 wheels bought for the rear. {} I'll throw them on at the weekend and see how simply they fit or if more arch pulls are needed. Then I can figure out sorting the bodywork ready to paint! Also... I think I've decided to sell the car, either as is or painted and looking good. I dont know if I mentioned on this thread but I'm facing a number of penalty points and a fine from speeding (genuinely accidentally committed but that's a story for another time), which is gonna absolutely buttf***k my insurance, simply can't comfortably pay a huge amount so the decision has provisionally been made :'(
That sucks man. Insurance seems to be getting a bit ridiculous at the moment anyway, plus with that all coming through I can see why you might make that call. Shame I'm not really in a financial position to take it off your hands (unless you'd take £2k and a VW lupo, but that's a loooong shot). Hopefully it goes to a good home!
Cheers guys, I've got a wedding to pay for too which isn't helping haha, but there is more important things in life than cars, and a lot of people will say "oh he's selling up again" which is true, but I only sell things for good reasons - this one being I don't want to make my life nor my familys life hard purely to say I drive a skyline. Getting old and caring less about cars I guess
Sorry to hear your selling up or sold at this stage? I'm the one who bought your Saab b204 set up in Ireland. Slowly getting all the bits I need for it to fit it to the E36. Must get a build thread up for it and try get a bit more done during this lockdown.
