Done loads of digging and found loads of people who have bolted on a turbo onto their N/A SR. Just wanting to see if they lasted or if they blew up after 6 months or a year or so when they started pushing them... Anybody done this and got experience? Tuners etc. I would be keen to hear your encounters with them and thoughts... Last year I got hold of a S15 with a Tomei Genesis SR22 NA engine in it with very low milage. Car had one owner new form Japan and has 30k miles on it. (it is CLEAN). The Engine was delivered by Tomei in 2003 and still runs great and has not had a hard life. Spec is as follows: (Confirmed from Tomei) Piston 87mm forged (high Comp N/A piston) Rods - Standard with ARP bolts Crank - Tomei 2.2 Camshaft - Tomei Poncam 260 - 11.2mm lush Head gasket - Tomei 0.6mm Valve spring - Tomei Type A Rocker Arm Stoppers Nismo Bearings Oversized Oil pan Comp ratio 12.5:1 So my thinking is A) Throw some forgerd rods, forged lower comp pistons and thicker HG in there and put some decent boost through it... B) Just bolt on a turbo and keep it at like 10 PSI and pray it doesn't knock like a Jehovah Witness C) Sell it or split for parts (The cranks must be worth something) and stick another engine in Happy to hear a hear thoughts on this all. Also, what would an NA genesis engine be worth these days? Open to offers
If you can find someone willing to give you a couple of grand for it then flog the engine as is. If not maybe plan A.
Let me know if you’re genuinely serious about selling the engine/bottom end. Imo that head is perfect for a turbo engine, but the high comp might be holding you back from turbo’ing it. Also worth noting, if it’s a DE block it’ll need holes drilling and tapping for oil return, and piston squirters if you were to turbo.
I want it as a fast street/drift car and don't want to worry about fancy fuels thats the thing. It's such a clean engine... Tomei don't mess about that is for sure. Probably getting replaced lets be honest.
Are you sure it's a Genesis engine? It's just on their website the spec they list is different to what yours is, and I can't see any mention of an N/A version. New these engines are over ten grand.
