Hello and welcome to my for sale post for the Driftworks Toyota Mark 2 JZX110

Will open with why its spares and repairs to save you time reading the below stuff, if it’s too much of an undertaking you can look elsewhere, if you’re still interested please read on and check out all the pics and vids I’ve included here (LOTS WILL BE ON MY GOOGLE LINK- Around 70 photos- all photos cover everything discussed in this listing. There's a few videos on there too aswell as at bottom of post.

Will add more next few days- the forum seems to be a bit iffy with regards to photos displaying properly recently.

Please go through these videos and pictures extensively- I believe they will answer a lot of your questions/queries, and there is some generally nice photos of the car there too. Will share a couple of it running recently prior to this too.

Price will be £10,000 ONO, or may be interested in a swap for something more dailyable, lower cost/easier to run. Could put cash on top for the right car. I’m open to most things, so don’t be afraid to drop me a line – Though a cash sale is my main preference.

Car will need to be trailered away, Happy to turn engine over on the day someone comes to look at it so they can hear it. Engine itself sounds spot on like a JZ should. Also cold start oil pressure is very strong, so I wouldn’t be concerned showing it to someone briefly.

Engine seems to have random oil pressure drops- have immediately stopped driving it- engine sounds healthy and does/did not burn any oil prior to this. They are momentary and a quick blip of the throttle brings it right back to where it should be - pressures as below, will include videos of it running.

    • Cold start 2k idle: 7-8 bar
    • Cold start normal 1k idle: 4-6 bar
    • Warm idle, around 1k (temps around 60-80 Centigrade on water and oil): 2-3 bar
    • Warm open throttle on boost (temps around 60-80 Centigrade on water and oil) around 5-7 bar
It is worth noting that even though the digital gauge will briefly show zero or lower pressures- the dash light doesn’t come on (little red one on the tacho that flickers off when you start the car and pressure builds)

(In summer on hottest days all these readings are about 1 bar less as expected really, but still strong at all times)

    • Possibly damaged turbo as a result, I’m reluctant to start it to confirm this, but will do shortly or pull filter off and give it a spin (will update in due course)-already rebuilt turbo last year due to same issues, however, had damaged oil cooler at time, which was thought to be the source of the oil pressure drops. It now has a new oil cooler, piping and sealing washers and has been perfectly fine up until this week. No visible oil leaks either when car is moved or anywhere on engine or sump (W/C 22/02/21) – Turbo was rebuilt Midland Turbos with Genuine Garret GTX3076R internals. Invoice for £484.50, 17/08/20

    • Gearbox seems to be damaged too. 1st gear will pop out as you slowly release clutch, 3rd gear goes in and wines. 2nd,4th,5th and reverse seem fine though- Was talking to Martin Richards of Driftworks about this a while back. Hopefully damage is minimal and it’s just synchro’s that need replacing. Again I stopped driving as soon as this occurred – Latest oil pressure issues explained above reared their head in preparation to get this to the garage to have gearbox out to investigate.

    • I SORN’ed the car 23/02/2021, but doesn’t seem to be showing yet (as of 25/2/21) There also seems to be a discrepancy with the MOT too- While its showing as MOT’ed until 19th November 2021 on the tax website, it doesn’t seem to be showing on the government MOT history check (pics included).
I bought this car February last year (2020) with great intentions to restore it to its former glory, However lost heart now.

It had a full timing belt and water pump change by Carson Performance a few months before I bought it on 23/08/2019

    • Best case Scenario I see with this is Synchro replacements on the gearbox and oil pump replacement/or hopefully simpler issue causing the pressure issues- so may come in under 3k
    • Worst case scenario with new box, oil and oil pump- but might aswell investgate and replace bottom end shells while you’re there is my feelings/opinion. If that’s the case, I’d probably factor 5k if you were able to do the work yourself.
I’m not able to do this level of work myself, so maybe factor in the 8k at the higher end for parts and a reputable/specialist garage to do it if that would be your plans

I’m the 8k area at a guess hence why I think this is an uneconomical repair for me- all of this, including the oil pressure issues, could be simple repairs for someone in the know/experienced with these cars and engines.

All Work in my ownership has been done by Simpson Parker Racing here in Swindon with receipts, pictures and invoices to prove.

All work listed is price of parts and labour combined, there is pictures of all this included here too.

I think the car is at a point where it needs someone more hands on to take it over.

I don’t have the heart or space to break it for parts myself- I personally feel this car should and deserves to be as it once was, and live on, but the next custodian of it can make the decision on that-
Nothing has really changed from the last couple of times it sold, so I’ve taken those details/Spec

    Specs
    • Factory VVti 1JZ.

    • HKS 264 cams.

    • 6 boost manifold with Garrett GTX3076R and Turbosmart 50mm progate (Rebuilt 17/08/2020 by Midland Turbo with genuine Garret parts- Turbo and fitting invoice totals £805 11/11/2020)
    • Custom super mega clearance stainless 3.5" exhaust - built for PERFECT ground clearance (Carson Performance fixed issues with this 29/11/2019 at a cost of £156)

    • Custom intake on Pipercross filter.

    • New alternator, plugs & coilpacks (Not sure when/how recent, but the alternator does look good)
    • Extreme twin plate clutch kit - lightweight chromoly flywheel (frankly, it was horrible to use, and suspect this was the route cause of the gearbox issues, first plan was to remove/change this, but then oil and turbo issues cropped up- it held the power without any issues though)

    • LSD/2way - Not sure what, but locks very hard.

    • HSD Monopro with custom spring rates.

    • Modified front hub upright

    • Modified rear lower arms

    • Full Vertex Kit (copy, moulded direct from original)

    • Custom steel rear wide arches

    • Rear bumber modified to sit with arches (Had more work done when Turbo was fitted to get this sitting right on 11/11/2020)
    • Corbeau clubsport seats

    • Driftworks hydraulic handbrake (stealth mounted, remote cylinder)

    • Nardi deep corn steering wheel

    • Full factory interior, in dash screen, jap sat nav, 6 disc system & a very good speaker set up

    • Defi Advance ZD Digital dash which is a seriously cool but expensive bit of kit. (all the info you need, water, oil pressures and temp, still have original manual and Japanese warranty card)
    • Undersealed (chassis is perfect when you get under it)

    • Map and AFR's checked professionally at some point in 2018 I believe
So there it is! As above looking for £10,000 ONO, or swaps for something.

Hi mate, thanks for the comment, yea, its a stunning car, real show stopper!

That was the previous owner before I bought it, I thought that too until I heard it in person, its much smoother and quieter.

These engines have a slight noise from the top end, I've always found.

It idles arou d 7-800 rpm when warm too, I think this is cam/map related, my stock 1j was around 1k smooth

My Soarer was same on idle, and my friends 2 vvti's souneded the same- but thats it, overall I dont have much exposure past my soarer, had that for just over 2 years and it was super reliable amd dependable! it was closer to stock than this though

someone really has to save this!... Perhaps Phil or someone from DW should take this back and restore it to her former glory (alongside the E46 V10 revival project lol )

I've personally followed this car for years and offered my skyline and soarer as a swap for it with cash previously when all was good, unfortunately those owners weren't interested at the time.

I want it to live on too, but needs must

Just noticed in my album link above( thought I'd have to find the video) is a full 8 minute cold start to warm video, with eyes on engine and guages

This was taken the first time i started to notice these issues last year and began looking for help on it

Would like to see this restored but I'm also a total vulture. If someone buys it to break post it back up here as I might want bits off it for my 110.

The car has been provisionally sold, I believe I've contacted all relevant parties who have showed interest in buying up to now to inform of this- I SINCERELY apologise if not- just ping me a message again :)

I will leave the post active incase there's further enquiries and offer to the next person in line, and notify all when finally sold.

So feel free to register your interest/message me/contact me.

I will keep channels of communication open at all points and advise everyone accordingly.

Only thing I'd say, is PLEASE READ THE POST FULLY -I know there's a lot to take in as I have jabbered on somewhat, but most questions that have been asked are already answered above

Thanks everyone for their interest and time thus far, its very much appreciated :)
