I picked up an s14a yesterday and it seems to be overboosting/misfiring/fuel cutting, I can't work out actually what it is. Thing's programmed on the AVCR to hit 15psi supposedly BUT feels like a misfire at wide open throttle. It'll boost as normal, hit 14-15psi and then the car decides to do its' best impression of an ST in tesco car park and pop a bit then hit what I assume to be fuel cut - Not nearly as harsh as the cut in my mx5 (Doesn't feel like you've hit a wall) but still very noticeable. When monitoring the boost it'll hit the 15psi and then spike to 18 or so, definitely not safe on stock turbo so I wanna get it fixed asap. First thought was the coil packs breaking down under load, so I have a set of R8 coils on the way, but I no longer think this is the case.

There's no aftermarket ECU at the moment, everything's controlled by the AVCR and SAFC2 - I've looked into editing this but I don't really wanna mess around with something I'm not 100% sure on.

Car's running a stock turbo, nismo 555s, FMIC, and manifold/elbow/downpipe/exhaust.

Any advice is greatly appreciated; I'm not sure if I should mess with it myself and follow tuning guides for the controllers online, or take it into somewhere local that specialises in remapping - Especially because most places won't be used to the AVCR/SAFC2

What ECU chip is it running??

SAFC is no where near good enough to sort out the fuel map.

As far as I know, nothing. Previous owner said he’d had the SAFC2 mapped to control fuelling - any ideas?

If thats the case the previous owner is a complete idiot.

You need to rip the SAFC out and stick a Stage 2 H-Dev chip in the ECU. Continue to run the car in it's current state and you could well fuck the engine up.

Am I right in thinking the horsham chips are just a standard cookie cutter template and can’t be tweaked by anyone that isn’t horsham developments if upgrades are made later on?

If so, do you reckon I’d be better buying a standalone?

Got the car cheap so I wanna get this right.

Yea, the stock ECU isn't remappable at all, so the chips are fit and forget.
If you want the car custom mapped you'll need to install a Nistune board or replace the entire ECU.

For the cost the H-Dev chips are excellent value for money, but the specification is fixed.
