I've had another thread on fduk of bodywork and buts that i'd been doing on the RX. Now thought i'd start a thread here with what i've done, and what im planning to do to help build up towards drift needs. Car started it's life with me with a smashed front end, and various damaged bits to the body kitt... I stripped her down with a friend on my driveway and spend few months making couple of bad decisions (choice of temp side skirts and front bumper) and learning from them. Here's how she looked 6 months ago. The car is now in primer, STILL waiting for final sand and then to goto my friends spray booth. Here's how it looks now: Car Model 1992 Mazda RX7 FD3s Typre R (Twin oil cooler) Current MOD LIST Cat Back HKS Twin power intake Large front mount Inter Cooler Full Body Kit Stripped Out back Advan's Rear 18x9 Front 18x8 NEWSR Suspension (no i've never heard of them either) A/C deleted Upcoming MODS (in order of fitment) Uprated Clutch (probably the ACT Extreme 6 puck sprung) PAINT JOB (hurry up charlie!) 58mm Core RAD (arived today) Gearbox (replacement stock to sort grindy 5th gear) DIY Undertray SuperPro Bush Kit Bucket Seats + Harnesses Cat Back Downpipe Delete air pump Apexi Power FC Coil Overs Delete Rats nest (single turbo re-frig)
It's not going back to the stock red, but the question is how to paint it. Idea so far is black bonnet, tailgate, roof and anything from the window cill's up. Then Metalic red bottom half.
Sugestions welcome, paint still hasn't been ordered :-) I had a play around on Forza with various color's for the bottom half, and it looked sweet with various random one's.
Here's the logo slapped on the back And here is the radiator that arived today.. Cheap and MASSIVE! (58mm core, stock is 35mm ish) Had better pressure test it beffore i put all my engine faith in the eBay Koyo Copy
Yeah the primer was a good quick bodge to get her to japshow finale on teh fduk stand. Yeah wet flat will be fun Ummm... i do like the look, but there is already quite a few white FD's out there so i won't realy stand out as much
car looks awsome in white, love the kit and the wheels, the sprayed on thing on the back looks shit tho...IMHO mite just be the colour/finish but have you smoothed the rear bumper into the car? cant see a join?
looks good. Personally im not a fan of the two tone as you usually have to have some awful line on the rear pillar. Black bonnet and tailgate would be sweet though. anyhu, looks pretty decent as it is. good luck!
The wheels shown in the 1st 2 pics are now just drift wheels. The 3rd pic were some borrowed 17" advans which are now gone. Teh last pic are teh current 18" Advan's with a yellow lip, which will get refurbed and repainted once the car is done. The Logo is a joke (!!! LOLZROYCE !!!) and won't be staying, its just primer anyway Yeah.... ummm... realy wasn't thinking of drifting when the fibreglass and filler came out.... oops! It's taken a couple of cone's out successfully so just have to hope it lasts and hope my friend who works for a crash repairer doesn't leave the country Yeah the nasty dividing line IS A CONCERN. I'll try ti ask my friend to do me a demo on a spare wing to see if it looks ok or not.

My body shop mate Charlie got did a quick spray out to show me what two paints seperated by a line would look and feel like. Gave me the spray out today and has to be said i was shocked! I thought there would be a nasty lump where the two paints meet. But no, layers of lacquer over both paints blend the two together realy well. Looks like the two tone may go ahead :-) Now to pick the two colors!
