Well. Where to start.. I guess a brief explanation of how I got to be at this point and small history recap for those who have no idea. J Started drifting tail end of 2006 into 2007 with a stock s14.. built from factory stock right up to competition spec where I competed in 2008 BDC season and a few other events/practice days.. At the end of 2008 I decided to strip the car as I believed at the time it was not worth selling as a whole or keeping as it was for another year (long story, but found out later I it wasn’t as bad.. but I was still skint anyway so no love loss) Then as the 2009 pre-season builds got underway and people began to get excited about competition again, I decided to get involved but take quite a different route.. I went out and bought a Mazda rx7 FC, a car not previously used in the BDC ever, and only had one other driver competing in one (Beezy).. I took a car from LESS than stock (had no engine) and built it incredibly fast into something competitive for 2009: However, that was the start of the end as it was such a massive outlay that i never really recovered, and was chasing my tail financially all through 2009 into the 2010 season.. where I had thought about stripiing/selling it a few times.. however I had done pretty well in it in 2009 and i had ALOT of fun with it, I loved the look and the noise of the rotary.. well.. second to none really.. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niiUgvDbJLA"]YouTube - BDC 09 Round 3, Lydden Hill[/ame] hairdryer ftw So i decided to keep it.. I even put further modifications on it.. in the quest to make it lighter I helped P4P get the first ever set of UK based lexan windows made for it (your welcome FC lads) and worked with Nickson Motorsport to develop the first ever aftermarket front lower arms. The latter of which giving INSANE lock/track and general drift improvements. In 2010 it ended up looking like this: ..however, trying to ignore the financial side of things was catching up to me. Alot. Every time I drifted at an event, I was worried about how I was eating the following, and praying nothing broke as I couldn’t afford to fix it.. and just NOT having fun... I want the fun back. J SO. I made the hard decision to strip the FC, use the proceeds to pay off immediate debts, buy a shell for a 2011/2012 build of epic epic proportions.. and rebuild myself back up to where I was car spec wise.. if now way beyond it, but just do it in a manageable, over-time style. I have no problem dumping thousands and thousands into my drift cars, the total cost was NEVER the problem, as I love building them from stock, it’s what I enjoy, but doing it all at once?.. Never again SO as I strip down and sell off parts from the FC (parts still available ), alot of the car I will be keeping, in fact, I will be bringing the heart of the FC BACK.. .. and combining it with a Nissan chassis, where suspension parts are alot easier to get hold of, the 2nd hand parts pmarket alot bigger and frankly.. I fell in love with this new shell moment I saw it This is not the first time this has been attempted, but im finding it hard to find someone who has finished or is far into the swap. Theres loads to consider and im lucky to have several great companies on board to help me through it but no doubt I will be calling on the knowledge of the internet masses at many points along this journey. Anyway.. I proudly introduce the 2011/12 Chariot: Yeah, some of you may recognise it , its Rich Ganders spare shell that never got finished (previously a sr20de from DanbuckJoyce).. We worked a deal and I went to collect this yesterday (Tuesday) evening with the ever reliable Pikey wagon . Note the EEEEEEEPPPPPPPIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCC offset issues courtesy of the BN Sports Blister Kit and some pretty horrid rims lol :Wack: I do have some new booties for her coming, but Im not sure if they will stay long, however the rims aren’t exactly priority one with this project.. ..First of is chassis prep. The car will head to Nickson Motorsport on Friday for caging, finish the tubs and some other details/ small jobs but in order to get it there, we have the wonderful job of sound deadening removal, dash removal and all the wonderfull associated jobs (carpet up, loom out and more.. Pics as it happens as usual with my threads (at least initially ) Thats all till tomorrow
look forward to being involved in the new project phil, sad to see the fc come to an end, but im sure this will be just as cool with the rotary engine up front.
Can not wait to see what you do with this, seeing as you built a badass s14 and my favorite FC i got a feeling this will be even better
Good luck with this one phil, you done the fc justice and inspired so many people. I feel for you on the financial side of things but i know you'll do this one justice too and come back to the BDC better and more determined then ever.
a sad, but also a wonderful story there man!! keep it up!! good spirit lies in you lol can't wait to see the outcome!! Adam
Now I see Sound deadening is not an issue man, check tech for a post I did on how to take it out with ease Wheels should be a priority when you have arches that big!!!!
saw this shell for sale a few weeks ago, it looks as if its landed in the right hands. i wish u the best of luck with ur project! and im dieing to see the finished result
How are you going to afford this?! Good luck though dude, I'll watch this thread with a great deal of interest.
good luck dude just remember that your building this to SAVE MONEY or your gonna be skint for another year and lexy will be pissed off
Are you going to have the engine work done at Hayward or Rotecnics? I was over at Rotecnics yesterday having a chat about the cars they are going to be having in over the next few months. Would be good if your car was just down the road from me, Get some photos done.
Really looking forward to what your gonna do with this phil, really interesting! You going to onevia it?
isn't this finished yet lol. Glad to hear your sorting your shit out. This is going to be awsome. Subscribed
Sweet Dude, I have just bought a ps its on its way over from japan. I will be watching this thread get some pics up of the cage when nickson have done it as I will be wanting one soon !!
well done with the new project dude, a 13b powered s-body was something i looked into recently and definately would be fun to do. but i thought you were selling/breaking the fc because money was tight i can see this being another money pit tbh and not sure if youre gonna be any better off financially. either way hope it all goes good for you
