Hi all im just stared my track car build and thought i would put some pics up the car came with a very good spec when i bought it, throttle bodes high lift cams trd coilovers trd diff aftermarket manifold cage new fia seats omp steering wheel started of stripping testing the seat and seat mounts thinning the loom out ive been planning on extending my roll cage, just add more bracing and stiffen thing up abit, but i want to keep it bolt in, as we all know gaffer tape and cable tie hold the world together if anyone can see any problems let me know. the cross in the main hoop doesnt go to the corners because it would get in the way of the harness mounts, and where they are is the same point as the main hoop is bolted to the old seat belt mount not much has been done to the 86 the last couple of week, too cold and a little snow but had a very good day today, here are the first couple of parts in (tacked) got the rear half of the cage done and ive repaired the dash ready for flocking and hopefully i can finish the rest of the cage tomorrow, and start on my seat mounts and ive ordered my ecu/coil pack/sensors and mapping software. good times thing have been going slowly over christmas/new year, to much snow and drink but my ecu arrived and the cage is almost done, im just waiting for some door bars to arrive. ive welded in my new seat rails scary welding to the car, all the other welding has been part of the bolt in cage. so if i got it wrong its only a roll cage. not a whole car but it worked out fine. and today ive been welding some flange onto a new middle box. because i dont want to go to all this time and effort, and then be over the noise limit and inside its look like a barrel of a gun. and it was a £5 ebay bargain , started stripping the old loom and sensors out of the engine bay and removing the heater matrix from inside, a very bare engine
ve had a good couple of weeks on the car, and the weather has been kind, but cold door bar are in and the cage is finished engine back together and the new ecu loom is in trd ignition leads modded for my ford coil and mounted on the bulkhead got the car up in the air and rear axle off. and its mega clean under there you might of noticed im doing thing twice. as this is my first build i keep getting the order wrong so i painted the inside, and then needed to fit my seat rails, but ive never realy welded before. and didnt do the best job on the seat rails and the floor. after annoying a mate for not listning to him(he knows about welding). and realising he had my safty at heart, i cut the rails out to start again, and i cut out the std mounts and some of the floor. so i can mount the seat as low as posable. and go a pro welder to do the welding still needs shaping and trimming and i can now mount the seat streight of the floor(large patch) and ive wired the ecu/kill switch im starting to feel its moving along nicly
ive rust proofed the new seat rails, painted the complet inside for the last time ive covered all the cable and fixed them in place made a drift pin for the hand brake, when the pin is in its a flyoff hand brake, and when its out oem
ok, ive had a very good week on the car , ive had the dash flocked and ive just droped the cage off for powder coating i have started fitting my fire exstinguisher so the inside should be finished in week or so
Looks awesome that May i ask where you got the trumpet socks from ? really could do with some on mine when its on the road
engine bay nozal fitted ive tryed to get the maximum coverage from only one nozal ive just fitted the drive/passinger pull cord for the exstinguisher and ive got the flocked dash fitted and my poly bush kit arived today so i can start rebuilding
This is turning into a mint project dude! Keep up the good work! I've just fitted the same set of bushes to my 86. They have made the car 10x better!
ive had a good couple of days on the car, its ready to start, when i add water and some oil dash is fully fitted with kill switch and gauge and the roof cage should be back from the powder coaters on monday. so the inside wshould be finished by tuesday
got the cage cage back from the powder coaters yesterday. and fitted today got the drivers seat in aswell ive tryed to start it to day, but i wont quite go, just needs some fine tunning, fingers crossed
ive sorted the on bit of rust out, removed the side window , sanded it down the painted it. i was dreading this job, but not to bad at all ive been working on the brake cooling the moment, ive ducted air from the front bumper, the diverted it towards the caliper. so will help alot with brake fade and im still waiting for my rear coilovers
