My e30 318is has a broken gearbox, and I am wondering if anyone could tell me what e30 boxes will fit onto it to replace it. Will all e30 boxes fit onto the 318is engine?

The welded diff blew at the same time which was a bit shit too.

theres all sorts of interent theory on this as we looked at it for a mate who had iS at the time im pretty sure an m10 box will fit but cant be 100% for the sort of money your looking at for one it may just be worth getting it and trying it bud

Thanks mate that comes out of the 318i 4 cylinder If im not mistaken. I replaced the welded diff with an open diff, and thinking all would be fine when I turned the car on the noise was horrendous from the box :(

I just want to be 100% on buying the m10 box, could anyone be 100%? I was told a superior e30 box would be the 325 sport box, but again would it fit?

I don't think m20 boxes fit as they're totally different engine blocks.

The m40 box will fit, from a 316i or 318i. The 318 (non - I) is an m10 engine but you're unlikely to find one of them. I don't think the m10 box will fit, as they're the same box fitment as an m30 6cyl.

Thanks guys for your knowledge, there is a e30 specialist that my dad gets BMW bits off, so i will go to him for a box.He supplies Garage D for BMW bits so I should be in good hands lol.

I was going to sell the car, but its not worth it,as £1500 worth of e30 will be better than say an s13 worth the same. My dad has kept me interested in them with his e30 Vauxhall redtop rally car project :p

No e30 is worth £1500 as a drifter haha. Just sell it to a gimp and buy a shit 325.
