Hey guys, I have an S13 and when i bought the car was told by previous owner that the was running but before he took the top engine block apart he couldn't find any problems or know what he is doing so he left it in bits which i still have. Anyway I was told many problems about it e.g. Turbo seals, pistons, head gasket etc. I was gonna repair it but was also told that it would cost just as much when buying another CA18 and im better off with an SR20. BUT iwas told by many CA18 that the CA is a good engine and if rebuild propaly it can be a mean engine and cheaper to mod. my question is really what engine is best use for drifting and won't break down or having problems just as much?? I know rb25 are the best but sorry no funds for it or i can't be ask to save that long lol ;-) Many thanks guys
i loved my ca it was a great little engine to drift with, i owned an s14 for 4 days and hated the sr so much i got rid of the car.. if i was going to keep fairly stock id go ca, if i was planning on spending money on it id go rb which is the route i chose and never looked back
I'm also a fan of the CA. Never had any problems with the two I had (both running stage 2 mods). In all fairness, I did fully rebuild the first one though.
Cheaper upgrades would be for SR, but CA also is a great engine, but you have to rebuild it properly, and some parts are really hard to source these days.
Sr's sound like wet farts why not rb20 my bros got a rb20 s13 and all 3 of us run rb20s with out problems if you look after them
hi i put a sr in my 13 i went for the vvt knotch top i preffer the sr i think people slate and underate the sr alot but with a little looking after its a fantastic engine in my mind. i think at the end of the day wil be what ever you want in there you will get lots off differant opinuions on here because people are differant i would say put the one your be happy with because the last thing you want to do is regret the choice lol
Yup. Sr Cheap parts More reliable More power More dori points And it's a fucking cheap and easy conversion Although the ca in my opinion sounds 10x better
How do you define cheap. You can't pick up an sr with ancillerys and loom for less than a grand where you could rebuild a CA for 500 notes. It's the dilemma im in at the moment.
I knew it wouldnt take long before you started fiddling again Mines running again now btw. Cheers for your help
Epic mate that's class. Now time to get that apexi safc attached and squeeze a little more power from it. As for the original post. How much does an sr20 conversion go for these days? I can't seem to find an engine with ancillerys for less than a grand and that's without loom and box. Id want a complete set up just to plug and play.
hmmmmm i`ve got an sr20det with plug and play loom and box all sat in my written off s13 and its got a h-dev stage 1A chipped ecu if your interested?
At no point in your post have you stated what you want to spend.... Also depends on what you call cheap Got mine for 700notes and bolted it in, seen a few go at a similar price Plus by the time you have built your ca and it breaks again you could have had an sr in the first place Sounds like you have your mind made up already though
I'm running a CA at the moment - it's light weight which helps the handeling and its about as cheap a motor as you can run! If it goes pop parts are peanuts or 300 quid will buy another one to thrown in or under 500 you can rebuild it... HOWEVER! I would like something capable of a bit more power/torque but more importantly "reliable horse power" if there is such a thing?? And not too heavy so I'm ruleing out RB's/v8's/1jz. I will probably upgrade to an SR as Sounding like a wet fart isn't really an issue as it's what an engine does rather then how it sounds. Its likely to be no more reliable than my CA and cost more dori-dolla but having a slightly larger displacement so more bhp/torque and it's still a 4pot so not too heavy?? There will be pro's and con's but who gives a funk!
just got my s13 as a swap for mk2 escort! its completley standard but ive just taken the engine out and completley re built it from ground up as i cant be asked to drive it yet! piece of piss to work on and i have to say.. personaly if a CA isnt knocking its a nicer engine than an SR (and dousent sound like your local chav spot carpark corsa crew WITH BACKBOXES BRUVVA). however if my CA shits itself i will be going SR! either way both are good lumps
