ok so, picked myself up a lexus 1UZ V8,

whos using what gearboxes? i dont think its going to make the power to required a r154, i have seen z33 6 speeds being used, and have seen adaptor kits for using SR boxes,

do we think that a stock SR box will take the potential torque of the V8?

dont want internet hearsay, i want facts, whos using what?

W58 or R154, we recently made made a billet adapter for the 1UZ bellhousing to R154, still have one left, if you´re intrested?

phone this bloke ask for nev 01474 850850

he does bell housings for the w58 and the billet adaptor r154 and the flywheel.

If your staying N/A just get a w58. If your going turbo R154 if your going full on mad man V160 :)

I've read a few people who had the 1uz with the z33 box and sr box having to do a bit of machine work to get it to fit so bare that in mind.

I'm guessing max san is from the same place

Machining anything isnt a problem as i own a machine shop, but, I cant make an adaptor plate for the price i can buy one off the shelf,

i have the engine, but i currently have an RBs14a, so i am having a crisis on conscious of what to do!

    I realise its a downgrade in power ( I am planning staying N/A )

Will have a look around for a W58 gearbox in the meantime

I'm happy that someone is knocking out flywheels that suit the 1U as i have seen some scary ass homebrew slotting jobs on a 3S-GE flywheel and " reprofiling " of the ring gear teeth with an angle grinder...

why not get a the 6 speed from the Z33? Will make it more road friendly as is plenty strong enough. If you're going custom, why not have 6 speeds? Almost identical gear ratios to a V160 if that's of any interest to you.

i havent yet decided if im actually going to get rid of the rb, as it has been great to me so far, i may end up either getting another s body or putting the 1U in something else,

as far as flywheels go, Modified 3SGTE Flywheel seems *quite* reasonable, ALTHOUGH, having just read that, he has put " modified 3SGTE Flywheel " if its a slotted job i'm just not happy with it, yes the spigot of the crankshaft takes the majority of the load, but the fit of the bolts in the flywheel also play a crucial part,

was looking at a fella that used the z33 box, he seemed pretty happy with it,

6 speed with make it have silly silly acceleration and would drink fuel and be annoying. 1uz is bad enough with a w58, lots I acceleration and running out steam very quickly.

surely you could fix that by dropping the diff ratio?

You'd need to seriously drop the ratio. When polo did the jzs161 aristo conversion using a 161 he said it was far to close and that was with a uk auto diff iirc

I'd stick with the 154 if it was me.

Well blagged myself two w58's today in exchange for rebuilding and setting up a diff,

still to get my hands on them but apparantly each one has a different shifter, so i'll have 2 out of the 10 odd to play with,

not decided on the vehicle or grand plan yet, but if i've got it all sat there built up ready to go i'll be a wee bit closer

loads of guys in the states have used them, slightly low quality material in the cast bellhousing, but otherwise worth the money
