    Hi,

    I need some advice.

im getting hammered for insurance on a R32 Skyline GTS non turbo!

I'm 31, 11 years NBC and live in a quiet area. I was insured FC on my stage 1 extensively modded S14a for under £300 with a higher agreed value. This R32 with wheels, exhaust and suspension is nearer £700. One company would only insure me TPFT at £1500 IF I had a tracker.

Adrian Flux said its due to the amount if claims on R32s. Now I understand there maybe claims here and there for GTRs but there can't be many on GTS's. Effectively I'm paying M3 insurance on a 316.

My renewal is due 1st of April (coincidence!) and I refuse to be raped for another year.

I have made them confirm to me a few times that its listed as non turbo which it is.

Has anybody got any advice or can recommend me any sensible insurance companies?

    thanks in advance.

    I'm with Admiral on my r32 gts, I'm 20 and it's about £850 for a 10month bonus accelerator policy. 3years driving 3years no claims iirc !

Think I remember talking to someone about insurance on turbo and na skylines and they said that the generic insurance companies class them as equal risk. They're still both grey imports and still a Skyline, it's the name and reputation you pay for.

Get another RX7 sounds like the obvious solution... that or get a proper Skyline with a turbo and enjoy the benefits of your overpriced insurance.

Tootle being the appropriate term, all show and no go man.... once you get a turbo you cant help but look back in disgust and feel a sense of self resentment. Its like having an ae85. Yeah you can dress it up but it'll always be second best.

Well I'm more than happy with it. I bought it BECAUSE it was non turbo.

It's probably the most fun car I've ever owned. Remember, I've just come from boost so I'm not a noob. When the engine goes pop it's be replaced with a det of some sort. It drifts very well and doesn't develope boosts leaks, it's reliable and has a better mpg.

I get my speed kicks on bikes. The NA 32 keeps me dry on wet days.

    Look nice to be fair.

Insurance for all model Skylines, NA or turbo is expensive. Skylines are crashed, stolen and vandalised much more frequently than most vehicles, the insurance prices reflect this. If you were paying under £300 for a modified 14a then I'd suggest trying that particular insurer again but I will say now that <£300 is incredibly cheap.

Thats all that matters, that you're happy with it. Fyi speaking from experience as my first r32 was a rb20de, the conversion was a complete ball ache. Ended up having to change everything from the engine+loom to the fucking rear hubs... HUBS, REALLY?! Absoloute nightmare and money pit, worked out more expensive than the gtr I bought afterwards. My advice (despite my previous cuntish post) is to find a stacked r33 spec 2 and use it as a doner car. You will save a fortune and probably bring a few pounds back in from the leftovers.

I get it all the time from people 'you should turbo it then it would be perfect', erm.... you mean I should sell it and buy another turbo skyline surely?

Thanks. I spoke to Luke earlier and he has done me a good quote. I think it'll be hard to beat but I've still got some ringing around to do.
