I was wondering what power the 1JZ engine running stock internals can deliver? I understand that the 2JZ can withstand very high bhp figures, but I wasn't sure if this was the same for the 1JZ.

    I tell you very shortly....

Bons is making 540 I think with cams, mine should be just on 500 maybe a wee bit more with totally stock internals untouched never been apart. They certainly appear to bombproof & I don't expect to have mine in bits internally for the foreseable future. Proper metal headgaskets from the factory & according to friend who works at Lotus where the test other manufacturers engines to destruction the JZ's are some of the best quality & best built factory engines to be found.

The Auzzies get 600 bhp out of them easy enough, keep charge temps down, good mapping & retain the stock rev limit & they keep on going. The 1JZ is a short stroke version of the 2JZ so in theory it'll be stronger & able to rev harder with less stress.

i've got a 26, but tempted to buy a 1j or a 2j at the moment instead for the fact that if it pops they are not AS expensive to replace.

    What's a "safe" rev-limit for these beauts?

Seems that a safe rev limit is pretty much up to your discretion. lol I've found people running 8500 limiters no worries, mine's set at 7500 (stock) at the moment (which is all it's mapped for anyway) but I'm gonna get it set to 8 when I get it remapped.

PowerFC, for a JZA70/JZX81, ultra-ultra rare ECU. lol

Otherwise I know people have had success with Emanages, and AEM is favoured by the supra guys.

Bon Bon do you have any modifications done to the engine besides fueling? i.e. have you got cams or the like?

oh and what should I be expecting to pay for a 1JZ with gearbox, but no turbos

Stock engine, unopened, no mods at all.
    HKS 256 cams
Garrett GT3040R turbo, Turbosmart 50mm gate, 4 inch overkill exhaust system :wack:
UK Supra 540cc injectors, going to 720 soon...
    Driftworks wasted spark ignition setup
GTR intercooler with full 3 inch pipework
    Sytec adjustable FPR
    Bosch 044 fuel pump
    Apexi Power FC

Good luck finding an engine and manual box, 1JZ itself is cheap, but easiest to get a lightweight flywheel and then a MA70 Supra clutch (or aftermarket) then W58 box if you're staying under 400bhp (i.e. stock) and you accept it might break, or R154 if you can find one for 1jz or a 1jz bellhousing to fit an R154 off something else. Gearboxes are tough to find for a sensible price.

i've sourced an engine and box (unsure which box till I speak to the guy again) for £400 with low miles. I've heard about the R154 boxes. Apparently they make fitting to the S13 body alot easier.
