Well as a few may know already I've been building a 180 for track use it wasn't intended for track but I think it was the right decision. So I got the car which I swapped for a golf I had but could'nt live with it came as this [/IMG] [/IMG] standard enough, coilovers, frontmount the usual . So the plan was road car as I already had drift car but multiple phonecalls off Colm Murray to inform me that he had already organised a man to put in a weld in cage even though I was still saying it would be a road car and a night full of jack daniels later I decided to put my 14 up for sale [/IMG] So it literally took a few hours and I had a deposit in my hand so the project was given the go ahead - - - Updated - - - So I said Id start stripping couple of hours later [/IMG] Decided Id strip the loom [/IMG] Then about an hour later threw the loom in the bin and decided to make my own loom [/IMG] Then the dreaded sound deadening this took about two days chiseling and rubbing down with petrol my god it was a pain but the results were good and the amount of weightt is pretty crazy [/IMG] So then time for some weight loss and get the car ready for cage so invited two of the lads up and gave Murray the grinder with a few discs didnt see him for about two hours behind all the sparks got the doors off windscreen out wings off as stripped as we could get it for cage [/IMG] [/IMG]
So the car went for cage to Paul Cusack in Castletownroche, collected it a few days later and was very very pleased just wanted a straight forward cage as tight to the pillars and roof as possible didn't think it would be possible to get as close as he did though check out the welds to roof front and back and A pillars [/IMG] [/IMG] - - - Updated - - - Now the real work started courtesy of the man who convinced me to start this in the first place who is also responsible for this : [/IMG] [/IMG] So you can see now why it was easy for him to sway me into building a track car!!! The next two weeks were going to be pretty hectic and with Murray only working on the car after work and weekends I think its pretty impressive what has been done! The aim was to have it ready for 24th Feb which seemed unrealistic but the end is in sight now! So dropped it to Murrays garage I think of a Thurs night two weeks ago Had in the meantime picked up some 4 of these [/IMG] And painted up a 14 subframe and skyline wishbones [/IMG] Got them bolted up and also had a full R33 brake setup which went on then grinder out again and fabricate a new place to put the shiny tank [/IMG] [/IMG] Firewall [/IMG] jacking point [/IMG]
So he attached the bosch 044 and got the front brakes working and it was my turn to do some work to the car the inside painting and outside painting which I had two days basically to do which would have been last Thursday scotch scotch hoover hoover [/IMG] 2.5 hours straight painting later, remember this is my third time lifting a spray gun I'm far from an expert but I'm very happy with results Note the welded in hydro bracket! [/IMG] [/IMG] Fuell cell cap off in this one [/IMG] - - - Updated - - - Outside [/IMG] Then decided on polycarbonate after this [/IMG] Lost some more weight then off doors and such [/IMG] I then flocked dash [/IMG] Murray modified some wings so wheels would fit [/IMG]
[/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] - - - Updated - - - I got a pair of these for 30bucks and sold the koukis dont value the koukis theyd only get smasmashed anyway so better off [/IMG] Messin about with some tint [/IMG] A few pics of the painting of parts poor little compressor was red afterwards [/IMG]
Little update for tonight door cards on and dash sitting in place [/IMG] [/IMG] Quarter window sealed and riveted [/IMG] - - - Updated - - - Few bits gathered for this after the depression of the car giving up the last day I havent been able to even look at it but have big plans once again and hopefully will be at it again in the not too distant future New lump no more turbos!!! [/IMG]
[/IMG] And if youve read the thread you will know that weight is the enemy in this build so some bita to help that [/IMG] Cant believe how light this is will make some difference [/IMG] Thats all for now must get a few more bits and some management and hopefully the build will re-start, - - - Updated - - - Cheers lads !! Started the ball rolling today [/IMG] [/IMG]
some pics from iits first and only day out! [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] - - - Updated - - - well been gathering bits for this flat out at work so not going as fast as the original build but murray is still pluggin away at it whenever he gets time not far from finished now management is the only thing Im stuck on with the engine being fairly rare here Im mainly chatting to lads in the US for info. Few Goodies : alloy pulleys and a kinetix plenum from the states [/IMG] Murray was busy! [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]
Test fitted bonnet engine is quite tall especially with the larger plenum [/IMG] [/IMG] - - - Updated - - - [/IMG] [/IMG]
Picked up a starlet brake servo and master cylinder because standard wouldnt fit ! Bolt holes even lined up perfect! [/IMG] - - - Updated - - - Finally bought myself a new camera phone so can stick updates up again just a few pics shows how it is now were basically down to wiring now and off for mapping [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] - - - Updated - - - cheers lads , few more pics engine bay painted [/IMG] engine in [/IMG] engine again had to reverse an sr rad then chop the inlets and swap them onto opposite side for it to fit right , also bolted on a viscous fan [/IMG] [/IMG]
inbetween all the rushing about I managed to paint the buddies sil80 while I was waiting for my fpr bonnet and rear door to dry [/IMG] Some boring wiring stuff! Everything is going to be plugged in so if the engine ever has to come out theres just a few plugs [/IMG] - - - Updated - - - Been flat out last few nights with colm doing the wiring it's unbelieveable how time consuming it is but it's something that I really don't want any problems with , so we stripped down the 350z loom took out what we needed made up our own loom and starting crimping pins for ecu also ran all dash wires and switch wires through plugs so everything can be plugged straight out trying to make it as functional as possible so if there's any problems in the future they should be easily found. A few pics of what we were at tonight Ecu wires pinned [/IMG] Ecu new mounting position [/IMG] Loads to tidy up tommorow night hopefully will have it sorted in a few hours . - - - Updated - - - Thanks! Coming towards the end of wiring now after a few small problems [/IMG]
She lives - - - Updated - - - nothin special just delighted to have her tickin over for the minute. Here's another
Brilliant looking car. Nice and simple (I'm sure getting it to this stage wasn't though!) some really good ideas too
Well got sorted out with an engine , some of ye may recognize this car was a good bonus being able to drive it up the road 5 mins before stripping it, View attachment 3818
