Got cracking on with the cutting and flanging the gussets last night. managed to get them trimmed and tacked after work..... Marked out and cut +flanged.. {} RH side bits cut out (one on right was just a template..) {} A pillar outer gusset and lower b pillar tacked in.. {}
cheers dude. For the holes I used the cookie cutter style cutters.. Persuaded work to let me borrow them in exchange for cookies {} For the flanging I used an old trick i used to use and just use a combination of the larger cutter and the smaller cutter.. It is a bit fiddly but works a treat. {} After christmas I will deffo be investing in a set of these as they are super useful.
coool, if you buy a set, could you pm me how much they cost i should be able to fine somthing to use them on
Ed You have skillz with the welder really nice smooth lines, top notch. Cracking evolution of the SD cage What gearbox are you going to use?
Cheers mate, Will be using a T-50 initially untill/if it pops then will either build a nice spec t50 or go back to a ford box Should have another update with some pics on Sunday.. I'm slowly plugging away at the metalwork and have now pretty much finished the drivers side. Inner wing and strut top now mostly from scratch but not looking too bad Cheers
Cracked on over the weekend, drivers side fabrication bits are 99% complete now. Its starting to look like a car again! Since the last update, the inner wing and strut top and cage triangulation have been pretty much finished and I am pretty happy with how it has turned out... Some pics.. {} The inner wing after the rot and crappy repairs were cut out {} Cage meeting strut top {} The new strut top... Made from scratch... Also decided to sink the reservoirs for the brakes into the bulkhead for some neatness {} The reservoir mounting recess. Note the badass water drain so it doesnt fill with water! this goes round the cage and comes out by the A pillar {} Wing pretty much there {} Inner wing looking a bit better now! {} Also got a load of other bits done over the weekend. Mega cheers to the Mrs for rocking the painting of bits and the drilling and riveting to fit the ally rear panels..Legend of a girl Engine might be put together this weekend if I can finish the sump and Topi can get the bearings... Cheers
great project going on here... looking forward to seeing the finished product have something like this going on, will get some pics up soon
Bit more done this weekend... Satarday... chopped out and started sorting passenger side bulkhead/wing {} Making of the sump {} The engine looking almost complete {} Big hole in LHS {} From the side {} Bit of triangulation {} Starting to put metal back in again {} {} Did a fair bit more today.. just uploading pictures Cheers
Todays progress... Made up the LHS strut top, fairly happy with how it has turned out. Will only need a skim off filler before painting and it will be seamless. {} cut roughly to shape, bolted on for flange to be added in hole {} Flange Then after a series of tacks, cuts and some mega hammer and dolly persuasion got the curve accross the top right... {} {} Bit of primer on {} Managed to get it out of the gazebo to have a bit of a clearout.. also to get the engine sitting in the bay to work out where things like wires etc will run. If it all goes to plan, the next time the engine is put in will be the last {} {} {} {}
