SR20 crank marks, needs be machined?

    after big end knock, I found this:

    Does it need to be machined? someone tell me is needed, and someothers tell me is not needed, new bearings and go... what you think??

    could you maybe post up a smaller picture??

    it doesnt look great, but to be perfectly honest, ANY answer is going to be internet speculation,

    get the crank out, give it a polish and a measure, not with a vernier or a tape measure, and dont get dave down the pub to do it after a few pints, bust out the micrometers or take it to an engineers,

    did it just start rattling? or was it proper knocking? if it was any sort of knock chances are the rod is buggered and needs replacing, things may " look " ok but infact, measure like shit, bearing in mind a conrod housing needs to remain within 0.001" of roundness to be any good.....

    all of the above is even more important when its going to be used in a performance application,

    OR,

    bang some shells in it and see what happens,

    ideally after bearing failure, due to contaminated oil, you should strip it to a bare block and CLEAN everything properly and do yourself a rebuild,
