Hello all, my subframe all looks good no cracks etc atm, but would like to get some sort of reinforment on there,

have had a quote of 1500+ for dropping subframe and welding on reinforcement plates you can see on ebay, but this is more than I payed for the car,

im looking for somone who could do this cheaper, someone with some experience about it would be ideal.

    its a 2002 330 e46

    cheers

Well bmw spray a type of expanding foam in the area to reinforce it. That's the fix they will perform if you have an e46 under 10 years that doesn't require welding already

    Maybe look into that?

And 1500quid is a fucking rip off imo. I could do it on my own in a day give or take half. That's on my back. At the average rate of 50 an hour that's 30 hours they reckon??

Where you to ? How much you want :)

If I had somwhere todo it, and a decent welder I'd probably have a crack

I only do it as a hobby dude for myself/family notices friends kinda thing.

Honestly speak to decent independent places that know beemers. Try doritech motorsport on here

Fair enough, I'm not being too tight by thinking £1500 is a lot am I ?

    Cheers

I wouldn't say so, someone that has common sense and knows how to take a rear end off should be able to remove and weld in the plates in a day easily. Provided nothing silly goes wrong. Even worse case 2 days.

And fuck me if garages are doing 700 a day in labour for one car I'm in the wrong profession.

You can say 2days of working for a noob to do all of this, and a lot of preparation BEFORE to do it really.

Just the weldings, if you never done that, it demands a lot of practicing to do some correct welds.

As said mate, I think 1500 is way out of the ball park, it's not really a monumental job. You don't have any pals or anyone that can weld? You'd be better off stripping it down yourself then having someone put a quick weld on it.

Sadly I don't have the room to strip it, I can weld to a point but would rather somone who's more confident todo it, need to find a garage that will do it cheap,

Hourly rate of garages is crazy, I work as an engineer and hourly rate we charge is nothing compared to a car garage!

Ring doritech motorsport on here, and try reddish motorsport as they specialise in beemers and have done a fair few.

Yeah the price is on the website. £995 +vat. So £1200. Or if it isn't cracked you could just leave it. And use the £1200 to buy another 46 if it does crack.

Yes I imagine you do get what you pay for, I'm not doubting redish or anyone else charging that money,

It's just more than in looking to spend

    Cheers

Or just fit stronger polyurethane mounts which prevent the subframe from cracking because there is less side to side movement. Also they have a flat surface where they contact the floor instead of the stock ones which have parts sticking out.
