A few months back I was talking to DJ at Garage Sinister www.garagesinister.com about buying/building a project,I had been looking at Stagea's but nothing floated my boat. As well as doing imports DJ and the crew do all the normal mechanic things but also do custom fab, rollcages ,engine conversions, race prep etc. He dropped me a blurry pic of an accident damaged Genuine Bee*R 324 that he had been offered. Originally it looked like this {} Its a well known car ,with a massive spec,supplied by JDM Garage but a heavy right foot and a meeting with a solid object made it look like this. It doesn't look too bad, and no doubt there will be people who say "it would've pulled out" but later pics will show you why we decided to look for a good shell to rebuild it. {} Anyhow the deal was done and the 324 got dropped back to sunny Daventry and Project Kong was born.
When we started to strip the car it was obvious (a) Bee*R, god bless em , had put this car together with bubble gum and string. The rear arches had been "tubbed" without the use of a welder, and then covered over with waterproof tape ( which wasn't ),water had got in and there was rot everywhere. The 324 kit was held on with strips of ali'. On the whole a bit of a bodge and basically it had the feeling of being thrown together. {} (b) It hadn't been cared for over its life. {} A mate of DJ's had a shell hanging about. {} So that got brought back.
Good thread, will the original shell be forsale as I could do with some bits of bulkhead to repair mine
Thanks, the shell is probably going to be scrapped as it is rotten like a pear but you are welcome to have some bits off it.
Ok so on assessment the new shell was in an "ok "condition but we took the decision to make it mint. Cuts were made to get behind the old tubs. {} Then new steel sheet got welded in. {} Finally got buttoned up {}
{} In, seam sealed and cut to the profile of the over fenders. {} Boot on...check , Over fenders on.... check. Doors from 324 on....check. {}
Well the front end was a very rusty bent mess and as Garage Sinister had just purchased a tube bender it would have been rude not to tube the front end. Out came the angle grinder, welder and bender and we ended up with this. {} Got it nice an square and then gusseted it {} Dropped the bonnet on to mock up the bonnet pins. {} Made these for the pins. {} Rad mounts mocked up {} Then cleaned it up and hit it was a few coats of bronze. {} We hooked up the front end with all new Driftworks kit. {} Brake lines will be HEL braided and disk carriers will be getting re-anodised. Cheers for looking.....peace
