Hello, I have a 910 Bluebird already equipped with a CA18DET on S13 front subframe. Power output is fine but engine starts to have internal problems so I might consider a change. I'm thinking about 3SGTE with Altezza gearbox or the obvious choice of SR20DET. Your advice that I may consider? Actual engine output is around 250bhp
SR all day, Altezza engine is lazy enough for what is is and there complex to work with too. Not really that tuneable for more power either
Id be tempted to rebuild the CA18 since you already have it in there- the price of a rebuild would surely come in at less than a swap? With a swap you have a lot of unknowns, and a lot of wiring to think about amongst other tricky bits. There's some SERIOUS Ca18's out there so I don't think youd see much benefit out of going SR.. not to mention the CA sounds glorious in comparison!
Like s13silvia said, for the money of buying a new engine and swapping it in you would be well on the way to a well sorted / forged ca. As said there is some serious ca’s out there. There good engines and only get slated as people have problems with them with 150000 thou miles on them with no service etc. Build what you have and look after it it will last just as long as any other engine
Yea anything an SR can do a CA can match, 250bhp isn't even breaking a sweat on a CA, easy 400bhp on a stock engine, stock gearbox is more of a limiting factor .
The thing is that rebuilt already have been done, not sure is oversized been used. It is the reason I might not be able to rebuilt it
