soo here's my build thread for my 1991 RX7 T2 thats i've been procastinating for a while now lol. the car's been in my family for quite a while now. my mum (yes, mum) bought it in perfect condition from a dealership back in 94ish and daily drove it to work and back until 02 when she decided to sell it because of how much it was costing her to run. All the offers she was given were nothing short of a slap in the face so she decided to 'park it up until she could afford to put it back on the road' lol. It then proceeded to sit for 14 years under a lean-to near the sea in Scotland unloved and forgotten about. As it sat near the sea for so long,it had terminal rust and pracitally destroyed it. (I'm yet to see a rustier FC). the car was never used to its full potential (apart from when my dad drove it on occasions) and was never appreciated like it shouldve been. heres some photos of it from the for sale ad that was put in the local paper. {} {} and here's how it was looking after sitting for 12 odd years. {} {} fucked. at this point it was my job to step in and save it before nature completely reclaimed it. after a little wash it was looking a lot better (ohh how looks can be deceiving lolll) {} after a couple years of waiting, i was able to get it to my house and start work on it. heres some photos of it moving for the first time in 15 odd years. No, not under its own power we didnt dare try starting it. (i later found out the engine was seized anyway) it was moved on the 8th April 2017. {} {} {} looks really bad here. just imagine what its like underneith. :/ {} that lovely rare lip got ripped off as it was towed onto the truck but thankfully wasnt that damaged at all {} aaand its home. the build starts! {} after getting it back home, stripping it down commenced. As im sure not many of you want to see photos of that, i'll keep them short. Here's photos of all that lovely rust too. everywhere you look theres chronic rust. {} {} {} {} {} {} {} dont think this shells seeing the road any time soon ! soo with that being said, i found a nice clean half caged shell for only £400!! absolute bargain. the previous owner was JJRX7 on here. heres a link to the buildthread of it before i owned it https://www.driftworks.com/forum/th...BVXTCfOuB9NONiTeQvXszItpJnZRULjFT3odc7mYfV66M {} {} of course i had to put all the body bits on to see what it'd look like. i love it. {} {} {} i'll post more progress of it another time.
Pretty sure I've been following this on insta. Respect to you for hoping to save that first shell, but it was definitely far too gone. Be cool to see this when it's done!
Watching this wanted an fc for so long but there's not many in here or they just don't get back to you, are you keeping it rotary
when i read you hadnt seen a rustier one i was like narrrrrrr... then i looked at the pics and was like dammnnnn can not wait to see the future of this build good luck
Good luck man!! let me know if there is any parts you need? i have engine parts sat round as well as electric looms etc. will
For a second I thought you were actually going to try patch up all that rust! That pic from the front with the mk 1s is pure sex. Looks like I got another rx-7 to follow.
Good to see E123LYL is still out there Not sure why it was stripped as it was running when I sold it and just needed paint and a few little bits. EDIT: Just had a look at the thread you bought it from - not sure who told him it was a Turbo II it wasn't the EGI engine blew just after the owner before me got it and was rebuilt under warentee by Hurley rotary, it was always an EGI the turbo II bonnet and a load of turbo II spares were picked up separate for it as I was going to convert it to a turbo engine.
sorry for the long awaited update, not done a huge amount on it. its been slow work got the front harness all rerouted and tucked. moved the big loop going round the engine bay to behind the dash and extended the plugs i need for things like the lights and pop-up motors to underneith the wing. also made a little plate to relocate the solenoids that were just behind the front bumper to where the abs computer used to be. engine bay should look super clean once i strip the engine harness of the bs and run it through the top of the transmission tunnel {} {} {}
had time to burn in college so i cleaned up the LIM and made block off plates. definitely not at the top of the to-do list but its another job done lol {} i also got the shell off the cinder blocks and moved it over in the garage to setup a wee sandblasting bit in the corner. lets see how long this lidl sandblaster lasts. also fINALLY got *almost* all the suspension stripped down and bushings removed. im thinking of going bronze, black and silver as the paint scheme for it all . if anyone can post what bushing setup theyre running on these? struggling to find a setup that works well without any binding or wack suspension issues. looks real ugly right now but hopefully wont for too much longer... {}
cheers everyone for the comments, gives me that little bit more motivation to actually get shit done lol. ay nice to find more of the previous owners; got anymore pics of it? @Ste00
shell and a few suspension parts have just been sent away to be mediablasted and epoxied. will be back next tuesday {} {} {}
got the shell back a couple days back but the c*nts made an absolute arse of it. runs left right and centre, many bits havent even been blasted , tried covering the bits he hadnt with buckets of paint and he didnt even paint over some of the bits he missed. lazy as fuck. paid him £900 so i expected a bit better! thankfully, hes agreed to reblast it and im getting a mate to primer it and help do the body work {} {} {} {} {} although it was a poorly done job, the shell is indeed VERY solid and the blasting didnt reveal any nasty surprises. theres two 10p holes in the sills and thats it so i'll get them welded up pronto. also the once very rusty suspension bits are looking brand new i'll send them off for powdercoating some other time {} {}
