New to the forum and new to knowing about engine mechanics! My son is 16 and we purchased an 86.5 Supra with a manual transmission and 7MGE engine. A few months ago we replaced head gaskets with a metal one, upgraded head studs, valve cover gaskets, new timing belt, water pump, alternator belt, timing cover, some hoses. Couldn't get to oil pan with our limited equipment so there was still an oil pan leak. My son thought he was checking the oil often enough but it now has rod knock! Grrrr. Do we fix this or swap it? He would like to put a 1JZ in it. What all would we need to swap? Is this cost effective? We would have to take it to a mechanic for anything else we do to it regarding the engine. If we take it to a mechanic, what all will they tell us we need to replace to put a different engine in?
