so i been reading abit about rb engines and came across the rb30 block
now my question is why do people fit the 26 head over the 30 head why not turbo the 30 head. It surly must flow more than the 26 head and is better shutted to its orignal block

    thanks in advance

You obviously have not read that much. Rb30 head is single cam.

i thought that which made sense
but i was reading somewhere/watching a video on the net where he had an engine in a stand and said he gone with the rb30 engine and that was twin cam turbo now he did'nt say its got 26/25 head on it so thought they did a twin cam turbo 30

but it must of been a 26/25 head
    owell now i no

    cheers

an Rb30 is a tractor engine, if you want to use it then there is alot of modifications you need to do to make to work and last, it would be cheaper to buy a Rb26.

Its give more torque for two reasons, larger capacity and secondly different longer stroke.

Now just because its an RB, don't mean it is badass out of the box, its a rubbish engine, it is in stock format an natural aspirated single cam low revving engine, only RB30's that are worth there weight are high deck RB26 with the OS Giken kit. They can rev and produce the power.

The RB30 does not have oil squirters for a start, and the stock pistons are not very well for high cylinder pressures, the ring lands crack fairly easy on them, the cranks are short nose type, so don't fully engaged with the oil pump properly.. which is made worse when you throw a N1 high flow pump on them.

The oil flow to the head is wrong on them and must be restricted alot.

RB26 are nice because you can rev them high because of there fairly short stroke, the RB30 MASSIVE long stroke (and rod ratio) means it can't rev as high so will just make alot of torque and thats about it.

A Built RB30 can be amazing, but if like alot of people your going for the "ah its going to be like a rb26 but bigger so just get a stock one, bang a head on it and away i go to 600bhp" good luck

There is also no knock sensors on the RB30 block.

The head you want to use is the RB25DE head, or RB26DETT, don't use a RB25DET head.

You will need to modifiy the squish area also.

Everyone that will now defend this engine will also have to admit to the engine problems they had with there rb30 :) :)

    clarkey.

only problem i have had is some twat dropped a lighter in the pully

and of course i will defend it, it took me 2 years of begging to buy it from smith. :D

Obviously he has been driving it for 3 years and although it doesnt rev high, its the 1st car I have been in 5th gear drifting so when you run out of revs UPSHIFT.

Its so powerful i am still scared of it and a whimp driving it, but i have seen it at full potential and its FECKING AMAZING.

So if its built right, its fantastic if not clarkeys right you may as well be driving a tractor

ha ha i was still typing when you posted lol.

Didnt think their had been any problems except ECU efficency. Its the RB26, 25, and 20 he had in it that didnt last him long

This one served him well its gearboxs that blew UNTIL THE OS giken set up

    lol

have a look on skylines australia there is a massive rb20 thread explaining every little detail you could ever want. Also they have great success with the rb30 over there.

    Thanks John

Talk to rob at rips in New Zeland. Well over 600 hp on standard internals and he has never had an engine failure.

dude the key to all of this is do your research phone up the big power specialists....

    RB Motorsport
    Abbey Motorsport
    RK Tuning

theres 3 off the top of my head that build proper spec RB30's all day long. the RB30 engine is of course going to have more torque as its a typical jeep/working motor engine from a Patrol. but as said the oil ways are different and they are single cam which means alot of fucking about to get it all right and match up sweetly.

if you know what your doing great, or if you have the wedge to pay someone proper to do it even better....

    otherwise to that i would say forget it and stick with a RB26 and maybe increase it to 2.7/8 using over boring or a stroker kit....;
