I have read some discussion elsewhere that running ali nuts is a risk for track use. Anyone experienced any issues with light ali nuts?
Good source of steel nuts? I bought some ali nuts off ebay a few years ago but reading some posts against them I think I will go steel nuts also.
I had a set of gen D1 ali nuts I've just binned. They're nothing short of shit and possibly fashioned out of Japanese fudge.
I would never use alloy nuts and hate the idea, though the Jensen Interceptor, (7.4ltr big heavy car, as in F&F6), came standard with alloy nuts! I would imagine the material quality varies a lot more between good and cheap than steel ones. I've got steel nuts from Rare Rims, though the red coating came off pretty quick. Alex B
i fucked 4 ali nuts on my last s13. no idea why aswell haha. put them on, changed a few times for skids, fucked! never again. And i just dont like the feel of them haha
Ali nuts get wrecked when people don't torque them up properly (over tightened) steel nuts are stronger and don't as much!
They are easy to damage if over tightened. If anyone uses them its worth inspecting the thread in the nuts every time they are undone. I use a set of 5zigen and already had to replace them when they had been over tightened. Upon removing a nut I noticed that the thread was breaking away inside. They aren't really worth the head ache to be honest. especially at over £80 a set...
Muteki make good, classy looking Steel Wheel nuts Alloy nuts also get problems with seizing themselves to studs if you aren't taking them on/off constantly...which will strip your threads too seemingly
Wat made it for me was watching dan capman with a chisel and a lump hammer trying to get a wheel off a car cause a alie nut had snapped and got stuck on the thread, half the day it took him
Few places are selling Ti nuts are these any better? I know Ti is strong and light but would they be strong enough for wheel nut use?
They can be ok but how many people torque then up ? Most people over tighten them ( any wheel nut / stud ) . I've seen lots of wheel bolts / studs stretched to the point of breaking , most air guns / electric over tighten nuts ,
I just use the standard nuts and tighten them with my cross brace. no fancy guns or breaker bar swinging.
