Took a few pics while up at the garage, i love the front wheels but they have around 8 degrees of Camber:-
is that 8 degrees camber? looks less to me. That a mock-up engine? looking good! i like the way the manifold pokes around the corner
Hats of to Thomas, that manifold is porn! Combined 8 degrees of camber maybe... Mine runs 6.5 either side or combined -13. Lots more than that
no the pictures dont do it justice. its fucking ridiculous. We measured it whilst there. Thats the actual engine, its getting a refresh before being put back together.
Hey Vinay, any update on this? Also it looks like you have plenty of positive camber adjustment left on your top-mounts, but obviously the less camber, the more the fender and tire become intimate!
not bad just like mine what exhaust are you running ?? - - - Updated - - - what do you need for this conversion ??
Forgive my ignorance, but regarding the turbo setup.. Wouldnt it be easier to just stand the engine up straight with a modified sump & bell housing (my simple mind at work!) I have an E28 Turbo that I am currently rebuilding thats also a tight fit, but nothing compared to the above! Also dibs on the front wheels when you get your 6.5" wide ones Cheers, Stuart
The geartsick would then be stabbing the passenger in the leg. It's also far too tall so would poke out the bonnet and hit the floor
My thoughts were that the bellhousing would be modified so the gearbox is not rotated, and that a custom sump (long horizontal type) would allow the engine to be lower mounted to account for the additonal height. (m50 sump looks quite big)
Actually the diesel engines (M51 or M57 series) sit at 20degrees slant instead of 30degrees and the diesels box's are tough as hell too. It's a bit pricey to do all the parts, but diesel E36 engine brackets, pan, pickup and transmission will give you a ton more room for the turbo. later diesel GS6-53DZ gearbox is the same box used on the turbo V8 5-series too
Diesel boxes have stupidly long ratios usually so on petrol cars they are terrible. Unless BMW did it with the diff which is a possibility.
