Bullerbristol cheers for that i just wish i had researched other Fab companies. I ended up finding Solid Fabrications after this all went to pot and wish i had used them.

Stavros i have no idea was probably just another excuse.

As an engineer (and having learned to TIG weld for the sole purpose of building a manifold of my own) I can say with certainty that that is absolutely horrific work, and there is no way i would even contemplate using that abortion of a fannymold. There is nothing remotely hard about getting flanges made up - quick measure then send a drawing to a local engineering firm who can CNC or laser cut them. The welding looks like its nearly all been done with MIG, looks uneven and not even semi proficient. The few TIG welds there look OK from what I can see, but havent been capped.

You try showing that to anyone with professional welding experience and they will laugh at you.

It might hurt because you're now back to square 1, BUT leave that shitty pile of junk for either Gunni or Damien to keep and look at and remind themselves each day what horrible wanky bodgers they are.

Sorry to see that though, I was looking forward to reading of some legendary turbo progress. You might even be better off adapting a stock manifold, cheap and easy and wont crack if you do it right. Spend the money saved on better management instead, much more important if you're on a budget at all.

A friend just showed me this thread, I've had another company do the same thing to me.
The guy handed me these so called amazing manifolds I'd been editing months for and I couldn't even speak they were so bad.
It amazes me these people are happy to produce and put there name to junk like that.

I hope it all gets sorted.

Sorry to hear this dude..... Obviously I've been discussing andeeps with him also as his is a load of scrap also unfortunately.

If they had some sense they would just give both of you your money back.

You shoild then just pay hayward and Scott or BTB to make one for you instead and get a proper job!

Basically it's disgusting they even have the balls to give you something so shite.

    That manifold is a disgrace!

Sorry to hear you're having bad luck with sorting it all out!

People have done it for years on homebrew turbo conversions. Heck, on my last big project I even chopped and welded a stainless external wastegate onto a cast turbo housing - as long as its welded right and made strong enough, it wont crack.

I'm doing a turbo conversion on a car right now with a chopped and welded manifold. Looks cheap, but it was a budget decision by the owner, and it will flow nicely still.

You're supposed to heat up the cast metal to 300 degrees first to stabilize the material when the weld heat goes in, I've never bothered; just keep the settings low for a root weld and by the time you blast over for a cap weld, its all nice and hot.

Most people just use a normal MIG welder too.

Not tried, but looking at the bolt spacing, it may be possible to do the usual V8 trick of flipping them upside down.

Such a lack of room in a E36 exhaust side of the bay I bet it hits shit though.

that manifold is shocking  I cant weld very well. But I know that grinding the welds flush to hide your shitty work (tried it many times :wack: ) doesn't fool anyone.

Get your money back, and force feed that piece of shit to the person that created it.

That's what I was thinking Stav and beings as mine's not a road car I don't really have to worry about exhaust clearance. Straight out of the front wing LOL

Its clearance to the inner wing with the engine so tipped over im worried about mate. If that clears, using 2x mildly cut down ones (ideally 2x fronts as they shorter) and a pair of T2s or similar could make for a fun twin turbo cheap bimmer.
Height wise they'd prob still stick out bonnet a bit though, lol.

yea you can flip the manifold. get a LHD bottom mount one, flip it, reweld flange, put turbo in front of strut tower, run the "downpipe" slightly over rocker cover behind the tower out the wing

That job is sadening. Its common on M42s to flip the std manifold, so should work on the M50 space wise too.

why would someone even take on the job if they couldnt do it properly and didnt have the tools,

why then would you outsource it to someone else who has neither the skills and doesnt even have a fucking mig welder, to finish the job.

why would you then brag about how great it is when it is clearly hacked about, poorly fitting piece of shit.

    just a bizarre mentality.

You will still struggle, unless you coe out of the bonnet, dont run a headlight and bash the tower in.

Gunni at GS Tuning wants me to send the manifold back to him so he can get a professional welder to fix it. I've told him it's not fixable but he seems to think his welder should make that decision. I've told him to make me a new one, refund my money or cover the cost of PP fixing it. He wants to do none of the above but fix the one he sent me in 'a couple of weeks'

My manifold was originally meant to take 'a couple of weeks' so im not risking another 5 months waiting for the next monstrosity.
