not much going on until I get my engine bits bk but have made my new collectors for the headers for the turbos just need welding now - - - Updated - - - well got a few more bits to add now i have all my engine bit bk i started on it this weekend got as far as putting the pistons in and on the second one the ring compressor snapped so until i get a new one thats on hold any way got a few snaps of whats turned up over the last week and there is still more coming this coming week from the states enjoy due to the pain in the ass of where i was going to put the turbo ive had a change of plan im now moving it up and on top on the manifold and making a new feed pipe to the turbo which will go bk on its self under the manifold up and between no1 runner and no2 runner so will sit now some where around here some of the bits ive got coming and the uprated parts for the gearbox a chromoly thrust washer and a billet center bearing retainer and these are my new power steering lines have got more to upload but photobucket is being gay at the mo will add more shortly
BLOCK IS OUT oil filter housing on bearings in cam sprocket on with locking tabs spiral locks always easier to fit when streched a little all done with rings on
pistons are in bottom sprocket on and I've found a new friend - - - Updated - - - lol yup just a few more pics of what I've done today timing gear all on oil pump on and pick up machanical fuel pump which is just temp to get it running then I'll swap it over to electric now I just need to do cam timing and dial it in then bottom end is near on done - - - Updated - - - bottom end is near on done now
yeah but I'll get some decent stuff after the run in had some more shiny bits turned up today power steering reservoir and new power steering pump with serpentine pulley also while the engine is out I've been messing around with setting up the trigger wheel for when I go efi on my standalone I ended up sticking the damper on a lathe and making a recess just for the trigger wheel to locate not quite sure how I'm gonna attach it yet might drill and tap it and hold it with little bolts or tack weld it on but any who, I tried to use what I had laying about and couldnt help but go to the old engine and thought hmmm that old bracket might fit so I took the old vr sensor of the m20 and slightly modified it to use on the chevy this is what I've come up with - - - Updated - - - I've just had ago at fixing the trigger wheel on to the damper I was thinking of welding it but I thought if I have to move it for adjustment it ain't gonna happen so I drilled and tapped it and a lick of paint - - - Updated - - -
today i done alot of head work took me hours roughting it out then getting it all sort of smooth but still rough enough for fuel atomisation then finished off lapping the valves in, valve springs will be here this week hopefully so i will have one complete head just one more to go - - - Updated - - - all my oil feed to the turbo parts turned up today and already fitted
just a few pics of what I've done over the last week or so - - - Updated - - - power steering bits going in
well not done much but have been messing about with the gearbox adding the uprated parts to it, the bits I've done have seen this gearbox take upwards of 5-600 bhp I have seen in the states this box taking over 800bhp the uprated parts I've put in are a chrome moly first gear thrust washer which takes most of the load from the whole gearbox and billet steel rear bearing retaining cover the original is just pressed which flexes under power which In turn ruins the bearing and the original thrust washer so here's just a few pics if what I've done not everything tho front and rear casing off started taking 5th gear and synchros of to get the thrust washer this is the old and new thrust washer (new one is on the left) and with it fitted this is what can happen to the original ones I replaced the rear main output shaft bearing as it had to be destroyed to reach the 1st gear thrust washer new and old retainers and then the new bearing retainer on top and with it all bk together this happened just great so now I've gotta wait for some more bolts to turn up soooooooo in the mean time I done some painting that's about it for now till I get these bolts when I do and it's bk together it's finally going all in the car for the last time I hope - - - Updated - - - few more goodies turned up this week about a month or so ive been waiting for these an bought a second hand carb just to get the thing running to brake it in
Just a few more goodies I now only need a set of pushrods to this thing running so it's almost there Im just waiting on some new parts for the head and the gearbox as soon as there hear I can get the whole thing bk in for he last time also done the oil returns to the sump - - - Updated - - - she's getting there
right thats about where im up to at the mo i have took some more pics tonight i shall add them tomoz ive tried to short hand as much as i can with out adding the whole other thread hope you guys like it
Badass. Bit overcammed for the turbo spec IMO, but awesome regardless. What happened to the previous engines etc? Seen 750bhp on a stock 350SBC before, but you mention oil issues, so aren't due to power.
overcammed in what regards ?? oil issues on the m20 i had in it i dont think i never really got to he bottom of it there must have been some sort of restriction in there some where i just had enough of it going wrong so i pulled it and started over with this project
Love this build dude The ethos of build it strong AND pretty is sweet! Almost a shame to leave those pistons and rods hiding away in a block, they need to be made into some e.p.i.cly expensive sculpture! I look forward to the rest of this
ha your right a lot of it you won't even see, I'm an enginner by trade and been doing cars all my life so do it once but do it properly first time
Ignore me, I was reading the advertised duration as the .050 duration. That cam is pretty good in fact, no overlap at all at .050, so it should be decent on the fairly small turbos.
ha I was gonna say it's ground for turbo application, the turbos ain't pirticually small there t04e,s about the same size and 2 gt30s
That's still small turbos in 6ltr V8 terms. But more than enough, will just be a smoke machine in every gear with instant response. But yeah, it's a spot on turbo cam once I read the spec correctly lol.
