    Hi,

As I've now got a good start on my build i want to document it, Some of you may already be following the build either on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/DarrenRickabyDriftUK or in Performance BMW mag.

I really wanted to try and get the car ready for this years BDC but due to starting a new job and working away mon-fri Ive now come to the concussion that it will be finished when its finished as id rather not rush and get the car perfect.

    A simple explanation....

I had my E30 V8 for over 4 years, loved every minute of it but it came to the point were 300bhp wasnt going to cut it anymore so it was either spend a few grand on turbo'ing the M60 or charge it like others have done, This would of done the job I'm sure but i needed a change in chassis and to try and challenge my driving style as well.

After selling the E30 i knew i wanted to build a E82 i was tinkering with the idea for a year before but they were just a little bit to expensive but over time they have came down to a sensible price. So in August (2016) i managed to buy a 118D E82 vandalised damaged full car which was perfect for me as i planned to change most panels anyway but under the white wrap the car wasn't to bad!

    The Plan....

Bodywork- I toyed with many idea's, Rocket bunny arches, over fenders, custom arches but i want to go back to basics and use all genuine OEM 1M panels...... Unfortunately this being the most expensive way!

Engine- it was either a 1J/2J which would be awesome and easy, M50 turbo but i decided i wanted to try some new technology(may not work) so I've got myself a N54b30 (1M engine, 135 and 335 engine) these are good for 800whp from a stock engine (500bhp on stock twin turbos) We are going to go down the single turbo and are hoping for 650WHP. Ill be using a E46 320d 5 or 6 speed box

Chassis- Basically a genuine 1M is E9X M3 in disguise so I've already got most of my E9X running gear, rear subframe (with custom bits) a choice of 3.15 and a 3.85 m3 Diff, m3 power steering rack and from hubs (unless i run wisefab)
Huxley was already fitted a real tidy cage in the shell

Paint and Wheels - Unknown just yet

Thanks to everyone that has helped me so far with the car especially all the lads at Team Sunset.

    So the pictures!

Any reason youre going 2J rather than N54? Would all go in nice and easily and still do similar power .........

Are you going to stick with an M3 LSD as well, Id be interested to see how it gets on in comp action :)

Good luck, it can definitely be done but Im not sure there are any in the UK at that power. Keep cooling in mind too, mine only runs 430hp but gets proper hot ..........

babybmw seems to be the best UK forum for them but Im just about to sign up to 1addicts as 95% of babybmw seems to be 118d and 120d owners, not quite the same :D

Yeah I've read that they run hot be running a huge rad and maybe meth injection, what chassis do you have the n54 in?

No one seems to playing with the n54 in
The U.K. but loads in the America. I'm
Waiting (hoping) for a decent priced management for direct port injection as unsure how to tune with JB4

Ive got an E82 as well, with M3 footwork, diff and a 550 clutch. Ive got a Cobb Accessport which is pretty cool, it works as a datalogger so the maps were all done remotely by some guy in the States, I think Ive got something like 12 maps from turbos turned off to shitthebed fast :D

The 1M has 35% bigger radiator but it costs £500, and oil cooler kits are double that so I might look at putting one together myself, welcome to new BMW tuning .......

Burger Motorsport are the people to speak to about serious N54 tuning, they would be my first stop for direct/port injection advice, in the UK it doesnt get much better than Birds who are good but dont have much experience with anything over 400hp :)

    BMW E82 Drift/Track/Road 1M conversion

sounds like a nice build mate! I'm not sure what rad I'm going to get in the stock front panel just yet and ill be running an oil cooler and power steering cooler. The Cobb sounds very similar to the JB4 but unsure about all this back end flash stuff!!!

Ive managed to get the floor sealed, we have used a tintable UPOL raptor rather than stone chip this should be a bit more hard wearing. its awesome to finally see a colour on the car even if its just the underfloor.

i will still be putting a the base colour and lacquer over the top of this then i can start installing the fuel tank, coilovers and subframes then it can come off the spit for good and then we can finished the exhaust and manifold off.

At the moment the plan is to use the stock ecu with a piggyback called JB4 unless ecu master releases thier ecu that supports direct port injection in the next 3-6months. Motec is well out of my price range for DPI
