after going through my company accounts for my first years trading, i was shocked to see how much money i have spent on petrol in a year lol.
my dailys have conisisted on an rx7 n/a fc3, a 1jz soarer and a 3.0 td hilux surf manual. basically none on which i have managed to get more then 20mpg out of lol. hilux seems to get from 16-20mpg however u drive it. rx7 5-20, and soarer around the same.
so if i become boring and get a cheap economical daily, i could prob save myself at least 50% on my fuel bill.
basically would just like peoples advice on what sort of cars i could see an easy 35-45mpg. but something i could live with as well, as in not a complete shit heap. something with a little bit of style would be good if at all possible.
i suppose something turbo diesel, and tbh an estate or a larger car would be better as i use the car for work, collecting gas bottles, moving engines etc. but not totally essential as i could use the hilux if need be.
i also thought about smaller engined stuff that can return a decent mpg but also be a bit of fun. used to have a 106 rallye s1, which was 1.3 but 100bhp, 8k rev limit, and awsome handling. would like another but they are going for good money now.
    budget of 1k max.
    let me know your ideas.
    thanks in advance

Ive got a Mk2 Golf GTI on LPG, and its fucking fuckity fuck cheap on fuel, less than diesels ive had.
Not great mpg, but at 50p a litre it doesnt matter.

So if you find something you like on LPG, go for it I say.

volvo t5 would be ok, but tbh its front drive with 250bhp, and i just would boot it lol. im sure my dad managed to get 30mpg from the soarer, but i just dont have the self control lol. would be exactly the same in summin like that. if its not fast, i wont be tempted to drive it fast lol.
lpg is an ok idea, but i still dont see many filling points, but maybe thats cos im not looking for it lol

Already? With or without the coilovers?

Retrorides are voting the Passat 1.8/2.0 to be the cheapest load lugger to run tbh. With decent build quality and parts availability/spec! I was really suprised as things like E34 5 series and stuff were put down in spec (but not fun) by it!

    E34 525tds though!

Here you go bud, the future of the daily!

Blue one is my mates and consists of a 110 pd engine tdi pissrat bought for £999 with some china spec coilies for £200 and some rimage  B5 chassis code.

Failing that you've got the good old Passat B4 - Engine code escapes me but they run the 1.9 tdi's also around 90hp iirc. Usually go for about the £800 mark!.... Again a friend of mines running some budget ish coils and some 15 x 7 steelies! All return BIG MPG's and all in your budget... ish ;)

i just bought a totally mint E34 520i . Its slow and lothargic but does get up to about 130 if u have long enough runway. I get about 30-32 mpg and thats normal driving with the od skid session here and there its slammed, its comfy as hell . 5 months tax and mot and all for £600 ..
