Hi guys, I've bought myself an AE86 levin saloon over the weekend, and I'm currently in the process of giving it a general overhaul before learning to drift. The car is by no means a minter, with plenty of rust patches, a completely shot radiator and an LSD that deafens me at 60mph, however I'm loving it already, and I'm looking forward to driving the nuts off it once it's all fixed up! Currently I've ordered all the service parts, and a whole new cooling system for her, so the engine will be running sweet after that, however I was wondering what the best course of action would be for the LSD? I've had it jacked up and the diff grips fine when rotating one of the wheels (the other spins along with it with no issues) however once I get past around 20mph the diff starts to make a deafening whine. I was hoping a fluid change and some additive would fix it, however the more I read up on it the more I realize it's likely to be the ring and pinion gears getting shagged. My main question is if there is an easy way to check on the diff without having to take it all apart? I'm not familiar with these cars, and unfortunately I don't know what diff is in the casing, so any help is gratefully received! On a side note the bodywork will be sorted at some point, but that can wait Also hello everyone!
Ahhh it isn't really in photo condition at the moment, the arches are shot to hell! Though I've had a good quote to have it all fixed so that should be happening in a few weeks time (once the next paycheque comes in). I'll take some photos now, don't say I didn't warn you though, haha

yeah I do have the original ducktail as well, though the fibreglass is cracking so it'll need some work if I end up wanting to put it back on. I got it for a great price, even better considering they're genuine TE37s! Also has a bunch of extras like coilovers, a carbon fibre bonnet, a decent bucket seat, five different strut and chassis braces, and a few bits an pieces you can see in the engine bay.

There is nothing wrong with the diff, its the crown wheel and pinion that wears and starts making the whining noise, only chance to cure it buying a new gear set (400 quid) and get new bearings while you´re at it (175gbp) and someone to set it up normally abotu 150GBP. I've been doing some reading up on the gears and bearings, only place I can find the gears is at fensport for £450, and the bearings I've only found through toyota themselves, unless I go for an ebay special from America! As for the labour putting a diff together is pretty easy so I'll save some money there at least. Yeah they aren't the cheapest to run! Although saying that with no turbo and only four cylinders I'm already saving a lot of money compared to the costs for running my previous car (Impreza). I'm down near Gatwick matey, currently looking at drift days at lydden hill as that seems to be the nearest place.

Haha, you're right, it's nowhere near big enough I was debating putting the ducktail on it, looks tidy on yours. Do either of you guys know of any AE86 parts suppliers/breakers/specialists? Only one I've found in England is fensport and they aren't exactly the cheapest.
