Hi Guru's Ive got an arse of a prob with a 1jz non vvti, from a jza 70 manual supra Its fitted in a r32 and I got it running quite a while ago but these probs occurred and I got fed up!!! Basically the engine will run if I hold the revs at around 1500 rpm any lower and it dies, will not idle at all. Secondly if I rev it up to where the turbos start to spool it back fires massively and kicks out a load of black smoke. I tried coil packs and connectors, igniters, map sensors of a working car to no avail. Changed the cps and double checked timing. New fuel pump, new plugs, still no change I've recently 'found the love' again and convinced it must be the ecu sent it off for repair. chucked it back on today and still absolutely no change......... Aggghhhhhhh Does anyone have any other suggestions before I use it for a paper weight??!
Haven't checked the idle control valve and will do, but the rest have been tried from a working car and didn't make any difference.
Still have the twin turbos on it? There known to shit them selves might explain the smoke, i know mine went it smoked loke mad and wouldnt idle great
Sounds abit like an ignitor problem. Has the ignitor been powered/wired in correctly? 1jz run like dogs with incorrect or low voltage. But id be changing your ignitor anyway
Cps!!! I've been here before and the two wires were the wrong way round, switch them around and give it a run. It runs perfect one way and a bag of wank the other.
when you wired it in, did you give power to the +b1 wire ? or b1 or whatever the code is? it's red and black, it gives the idle control and o2 sensor a 12v power. the idle control has two of them going in, check to see if the plug has 12v at these two wires also before it's putting out black smoke it must be running very rich, I suggest checking all the timing sensors, you can check resistance of them pretty easily, also check the timing belt is definitely timed correctly. also have you checked the ecu for fault codes by bridging e1 and te1 with a noide light? (or whatever the wire codes are?)
Cheers guys, got a couple of things there to check. I tried an ignitor from a working car, had no effect. I also double checked the timing and its bang on. I'll try all the other suggestions and keep you'all updated.
Iv had experience of them jumping a tooth randomly too.. Had to redo timing in pits at pod, wasn't so awesome. Iv got a load of spare parts, not to far away from you either.. Just sayin..
