as Dale says the IS200 was ment to sell to the masses and rival the 3 series, I had my IS200 for 4 years did quite a bit to it and learnt shit loads about the car the down fall of the IS200 is the fuel economy compared to power output, i would still have mine if it made more power for the fuel i drunk thats the only reason i would not buy another one, if i was going to buy another it would just have to be a blown up one to do a sr or jz convertion, im supprised there isnt more sr powerd one out there, Dale you have to change quite a bit to get the 3sge+t to work Link Outlaw Jap Club Forum
if there's one awesome thing with the tezza, is that its 50% ready for an engine swap. its already got a good drive train so all you'll need is engine, wiring and exhaust. easier said than done but meh.. adapt the rotang or sr20det to the 6 speed and wire it in with an aftermarket computer and as long as you dont go mental with the torque figures, fun times will be had.
So what? Take a 20B and put it in a Lada and it will be amazing. If youre looking at throwing £6K at a car then a 400hp Silvia is a better bet anyway ..........
Had one for years wank slow not that bad on fuel I own worse they do rainy skids very easy lol I had an engine let go at 120000 threw another low mileage lump in and it's been problem free for years would I use one as a drift car not without a quicker lump but would if I could be arsed with an engine conversion just buy bmw case closed lol
true words. I'd love to see more veriaty at drift days. I drive a silvia now but most definitely won't be buying another
^what he said... and what retarded country do you live in to be paying that much for such a rotang conversion? is that labor too or what?
I've not seen a Silvia on the road in a long long time, and barely ever see PS13s at drift days. You can't go 10min without seeing some chav going down the road in a IS200 with the babyseat in the back. At drift days there's defo more e36s than is200s, but Is200s at drift days aren't exactly rare. The main difference is the BMWs are usually putting in impressive performances considering the money spent, the is200s usually are pretty wank.
^ We arnt talking about what you see on the roads.. And when I say 'Silvia' I'm talking about s-body's in general as I'm sure Doc meant too. Of which make up over 50% of the cars at every drift day iv ever been too. You don't see many PS's because they are £5k, not -£1k like an IS.. And if your going down the line of IS200s being chav cars, have you not seen what chavs do to e36's?!? I'd go out on a limb here and say there is more chav'ed up e36's out there than is200's.. I fail to see how an IS200 can be called underpowered, when compaired to a 316.. I'm pretty sure most you dudes that have posted here have bitched and moaned at other people that claim their 316 isn't powerful enough.. I'm actually selling my car now, Might get a cheap ass NA Altezza and just do basic chassis mods..
I wouldnt use 3SGE + T.. I'd actually get a 3SGTE from a late celica gt4.. Swap over all the parts that need swapping, then sell the Beams engine for more than the celica engine costs. I like the idea of the 4 pot as balance will be considerably better. Also, the gearboxes are good for 400-450Hp, if I break it I can replace it for £50.
couldnt agree more with dale here BUT there is a reason why s-bodies and alike are so common, they work, and they work well... hence why most of d1sl etc you see is s-bodies... even in the FD if its not a big american tank its an s-body... its too hard and expensive to make other chassis decent for the same money.... just use your is200 1j as an example...
I know s-body's work well, there's no denying that.. R-boys are just as good.. But a lot of that's down to the fact you can buy cheap adjustable arms and anything else you need to get the car set up. And they have turbos/power.. For example, how many people use NA s-body for drifting? Bet there is only a handful in this country.. Because they are dont have much power.. 99% of the NA s-body's have been converted to turbo engines..lol
exactly.. one man again, exactly... because when you do a comparrison chart s-bodies, r-bodies, e36's etc all win bang for buck... this also applies to the is200... with enough money thrown at it they can be a weapon as true with any car (within reason).... just for is200 money there is alot better out there... other than the looks, interior and chassis the is200 doesnt have alot going for it...
You can skid fucking anything, but I think the main point is, unless you really like an is200, a 325/328 is a shitload better drifter for the money, and that's a fact. 316 don't even come in to it, as an IS isn't as cheap to insure as one, and that's the only reason youd use a small engine bm. If someone likes a car, and its rwd, you can skid it, and chances are after some practice you'll be better than most better cars, but simple fact is, some cars are better than others as drifters for the money.
