    +1

Still doesnt make it easy to find parts though :D

Never drifted an e36 properly, but if i had to get a car that i didnt care about, Id probably go with the IS....maybe because Im a little biased :D
My choice is mainly based on the sla suspension on the IS, and the lack of power will probably teach you a lot

I had IS200 with supercharger and the engine is kinda slow, even with the charger it felt sluggish. But the chassis is epic, extremely easy to hold control in skid. But forget to skid it on dry asphalt or track with original engine.

Im thinking of a new pro-drift car and Im wondering if I should go for Is200/Altezza and swap in a 1uz-fe and turbocharge the shit to get the power I want. One turbo on 0.7-1bar should give 500whp :) Fast spoolup and intense power, and original forged internals

Well i'm only a beginner in all of this but i chose the IS200 over a bmw as my first rwd basically because i've drove the odd bmw and wasn't too impressed and because EVERYONE either has or has had one.

When i got mine i had a set of coilovers to put on right away and i'm in love! it's just really controlled.

It's certainly underpowered but that just makes you drive it harder and i'm sure everyone on here will agree that's more fun! :)

Watched an Is200 at wheels on 3/11 and all I noticed was lack of power, the driver was going in quite slow , big clutch kick and getting about 1/2 way around the big corners.

Driven much faster I think they'd be a reet laugh !

So the OP may have his answer.
    Underpowered and over fueled.

If u head v8 way did mine for £3000 all in,
I have a pic heavy thread on here u can look through.
Altezza is a better start but u have to put alot of effort in like going to the gym.
I picked v8 because I like the noise and cheap to replace.
If I was to build it again would have saved up and built similar to dale.

I'm looking for as IS300 Sportcross(Estate) at the moment for a daily driver/winter skidder.. Been looking for an E46 touring, but they are all haggered, or loads of money! Everyone Iv spoken to has said not to bother with E46 as they are crap and the subframes fall out. Your choice of diff is either a welder or £1500+ for an lds solution.

saw you drift on the 28th mate, it went well. yeh slow but you seemed to be having way more fun than me and my broke as 13!

The OP bought one, and tbh altho i liked it much more than a e36 328i I still sold it, bought a £600 S13 auto and put spanner time into a conversion. I couldnt handle the lack of power. the chassis was awesome tho. really enjoyable to drive.

just mtfu and weld it lol. sure it's a daily but if your not gonna weld the diff and skid you may as well buy a micra and save the mpgs lol

lol... In an IS300 I'll weld the diff.. Not a problem.. In an E46 I wouldn't want a welder...
I need an estate car... An e39 is the perfect car.. But they aren't as nimble as the e46 touring or IS estate.. Not that they are nimble, but they are a lot better for ragging about, the 5 is to big for a winter piss-about daily driver..

The reason I'm now steering towards the IS300 estate is that they don't loose there subframes like the e46's do.. They are more expensive and they are all auto.. But I can manual it in about 4mins.. *cough* with a bmw gearbox....

Cheers man! that was my first drift day haha. I was impressed with it, put 3/4 of a tank in it, drove to the track, was on track none stop other than the hour break, another stop for a pie :D and a tyre change and drove home on it.
And to my surprise the bonnet didn't come up once through the whole day, not bad for a car that barely owes me £1000 and on 187k miles!
so that taken into account it would seem a pretty decent car for the job!
