Yo, like quite afew people on here Im new to the drift scene but unike most Im not going to ask what car to buy or how much things are because theres enough info on here but I would like to know afew practicalities of running a dayly skid car! Im just after some honest facts like running a welded diff is it usable for long drives? will normal driving shag the tyres quick? Also coilovers or springs wich is more livable? I haven't bought a skid car yet but its most likely going to be german, cheap and lowpowered considering budget and insurance. any words of wisdom would be a great help! cheers
Welders are fine, you won't even notice on a long journey. Buy a 318ti compact and some decent coilovers. Avoid ebay shite. Depending on how you drive, normal driving won't really kill tyres. Depends how good your alignment is too. Compacts are bad for camber and tow on the rear after lowering.
Cheers for the advice bro! Thats the exact car iv been looking at other than the short wheel base they seem to be good lil cars and not much power to get into trouble with! Coilover wise any brands worth investing in? E36 or e46 compact? Thanks again!
Buy E36, get the £120ish ebay coilovers, weld the diff, fit a bucket seat, job done. Welded diffs are fine, stomp on it in the rain, the back end will come out effortlessly, in the dry a bit more speed and flick is needed, is very predictable. Ebay coilovers are fine, bit crashy and may need replacing every year or two with hard use but at that price, they are a consumable item anyway.
They are no shorter than a coupe or saloon they just look it. Get a 36, parts are cheap and easily got. I'm against eBay coils they are shit, I've got bc's and no complaints they're 18 months old and clean up as new. You get what you pay for with coilovers.
Thanks guys! I will raid the piggy bank and do some looking around and see what i can find and hopefully i can start having some fun!
