Hey all, Spec is: E36 318is 1998 Shell 1992 Non Vanos M50 325i engine Standard exhaust with de-cat Standard air filter 318is diff. When I first swapped the engine over to the M50 it was sound, pulled like a train and never had to kick the sh*t out of the clutch, but recently its lacking loads of power, wont spin up with out hammering the clutch, even in the soaking wet when changing from 1st to 2nd fast.... Sometimes (getting more and more frequent) it splutters like crazy, to the point when I nearly come to a standstill, a few pops from the exhaust. It goes once I stamp the throttle a few times and then it picks up Ok.. Anyone any Ideas, I've had it on a Snap on Versus pro and it just threw up O2 sensor (Which it would with the de-cat would it not?) and AFM faults, but not sure the AFM would cause problems this bad? Cheers all.
AFM could cause these faults, also where the ECU sits fill up with water and cause shorting, might be worth checking that first as it doesn't cost anything
Afm would possibly cause this as it will mess up the fuelling if it's faulty. Might be worth giving it a clean?
Uhh, you should check some basic things first dude. If your engine has gradually gotten shittier and shittier until the point where it's almost too shit to drive - you need to do some maintenance maybe haha. What are the condition of the spark plugs, that can tell you alot.
02 sensor is flagged up is because 02 sensor isnt working, that's before the cat so a de-cat wont matter. And as 02 sensor is all about the afr, and the afr is a big factor in your car spluttering and running like shit...
Brand new plugs just been put in. Didnt make a difference. Will try AFM and O2 sensors then. Cheers peoples
Check the hose between throttlebody and AFM too, can really screw up the AFR. When the cars running squirt some EZstart or carb cleaner around that hose and listen for a change in engine note!
