DO NOT WELD THE 540 MANUAL DIFF!! get another (auto or sumet)and weld that!!! Manual e39 540 diffs are like rocking horse poo!!!! You got the reversing sensors? and how much you want for clear headlights? and manual diff? EDIT: I got two full sets of the Rondels im willing to deal with
After 6 months of hard hard driving My 540 finally broke something and never drove home for the 1st time. I think this was possibly an old injury from a previous off into a field that i never noticed. I was at the Scottish Modified Car show in Edinburgh on sunday doing some demos for the familys and chavs. as the day progressed i could feel the cars back end getting looser and looser however i couldnt see anything wrong so just asumed it was a bush dieing on me and i would fix it later. so i carried on driving hard. I noticed something was wrong when i seen one of my hand brake marks the right hand side was a thick black solid line however the other side looked like morse code as the wheel must have been bouncing. Got cambers? Basically i had sheered one of the bolts of the wishbone so when i was accelerating hard the wheels was toe'ing out. Ah well it was fun. i got to drift for free and now i get to fix it. but i have 2 breakers in just now anyway so its all good. the tow of shame. Excuse the e36 wheel that was on so it would get on the trailer as the cambers made it too wide. I **Heart** my 540
well as you probably know ive been skidding my 540 for a few months and in that time the damaged repaired bumper i had has had a hard live. The tyres we use are all preused tyrepile finds and continetal are the most common find. they are in plentiful supply but have a horrible habbit of delaminating and as they do so at 70ish MPH it smashes anything in its path so my bumper looked like this. I did my best to stich it up but each time it got worse. the corners we missing completly remeber this is road legal and i drive it to and from events so the cable tie combo was just asking for trouble. So today i though i would treat it to a new sport bumper new rear arch liners as mines were in pecies. I also added smoked rear lights from my old M5 as well as the angel eyes and carbon splitter from my M5 oh and some rear mud flaps as i think they look cool on the sport bumper. then i had a "who has the lowest coolest e39" comp with a mate lol. absolute oppisite end of the modding spectrum i think you will agree. Some diffrent wheels Ever seen 17" mims? Thought not lol Or 10j Atev A's? style 32s a bit more common bbs splits cant see for the smoke
I love E39's! But how different is it to an E34? Whats better / worse? Obviously it has more gadgety things like traction control etc etc. do these get in the way? it seems to look a lot less "boaty" than the E34. does the E39 still have full interior? Rob
some new wheels added to my collection today! been after these forever. Finally found what i needed Borbet B's in 10 and 8,5j Happy jeek. Will be fitted in time for bmw show.

Fitted the wheels last night turns out they don't fit over 540 brakes on the front so i made the calipers fit inside the wheels :-)
im confused do you mean you just had to take a grinder to the calipers or was it as much as making the brakes slightly smaller
Yours would be so much more badass as a drifty tourer than Chris's saloon. You should flog the datsun Ed and buy a derv daily with that money. Turn the big 5 into a skidder.
Both absolutely stunning looking 39s in there own right. Do you mind me asking what front splitter your friend has on his E39? I know yours is Hamaan style right? just don't know which your friends is.
would love an e39 but after a quick search on pistonheads i can barely see any manual e39s. So i guess their quite rare, what models came with a manual?
crusader its some flexible universal thing cr33ch they all came in manual and the 540s do come up just not so often we have 3 now
