How long will I need of this stuff to wrap my FD3S exhaust(from downpipe to backbox) Searched but couldn't find anything So it would be nice to get an approximate length from anyoune who has their exhaust wrapped
My almost new heatwrapped downpipe disintagrated with very little use, il never wrap anything underbody again, just thought id mention it so you dont ruin yours.
I bought a 10m roll of 50mm the other month to do the drift truck manifold and down pipe, and didn't have enough to do both!! The down pipe on the truck is about the same as my HKS one on the FD so I would say a 10m roll would do the down pipe and possibly a fraction more!
Just make sure you do it right. Overlap should be half the width of the wrap so it ends up like double thickness. This took me about 2 hours. And you really do need a mask, goggles and clothes you're not really that attached to.
If it's just a down pipe then you can work it out roughly. Circumference of pipe = 1 wrap. length of pipe divided by the width of the wrap x the circumference. If that makes sense... I'm tired abut it makes sense to me.. But add a bit of spare. You can always cut it off....
Yeah I made the calculation its up to back box as it generates too much heat inside the cabin. Lets say the total length of pipe I would wrap is about 2 meters, which is 2000mm If I use 50mm wide and overlap should be half of the thickness that would be 25mm, 2000/25= 80 , which means I would need 80 turns Considering that my piping is 76mm, 2*pi*r gives me a circumference of 239mm Since I need 80 turns, 80*239= 19.100 Which means I would theoretically need 19.1 metres of wrap I am not sure about my exhaust length as the car is not with me right now so 30m roll should cover it Dammn!!! my brain hurts
Loving a nice bit of trigonometry on a saturday morning! When i built my kit car i heat wrapped my exhaust on that and it is horrible stuff, mask and marrigolds are definately required. I also soaked the wrap in water for 24hrs before wrapping and put it on wet! helps get it tight.
Thanks for the advice guys. Yeah I,m aware that I'll probably need more than that calculation , so im ordering 30m =)
