Mint, the question has been answered - put a midbox in. For the OP - doing so will make it quieter, but a little lower pitched/boomier. More chav-like, and less raspy. And THIS is the new point of the thread: (well done Bladey, again!)

Back in 1989 or therabouts my mate was rocking around in a Citroen 2CV. Having owned a Cavalier SRi, Astra GTE and 3.0 Capri he was used to a bit more poke so he fitted a cherry bomb exhaust to liven it up a bit. It certainly did the trick, sounded the nuts and made cornering even more lairy! Found a pic on the interweb of someone with the same idea. Ian.

Apart from mine eh coz it rocks All 20 quids worth of it End of the the day, if you go past the po po, just dip the clutch, roll past in neutral or lift off, i lived about 300 yards from the police station and did this trick every time. Just gone from herse spec quiet to asbo loud and although i need to piut a mid box in soon for some more back pressure (lost some low down torque) its too nice hearing my 12 valve six pot sing through tunnels and bridges to go back to how it was
The M42 engine does seem to put out a lot of noise! I had 0 silencers on my E30 iS, with no stereo either. And yes it was insanely loud and annoying, but sounding absalutely deadly when you were giving it the big BAP BAPs. The unsilenced 4AGE was pretty lairy too, and my S13 with SR20 was just a straight 2.5" pipe with no boxes - nice and raspy. Not sure why people dislike Cherry Bomb's to be honest, they rock hard if you're too old for staight pipe. Buddyclub, Japspeed, HKS, Blitz = what the fuck are you doing wasting all that money on some tube.
I <3 the buddy club spec 2 on my s14. And the guy that currently owns my old silvia, which is also rocking a buddyclub spec 2, came to my house today. Fuck me i miss the noise. Have I owned the only 2 in the country for PS13 and S14a?
loudest I ever had was 190e with exhaust cut off before the cat. LOUD. nicest sounding...........c32 laurel with the backbox cut off and a jetex cheapo race silencer bodged on. the 530i sounds nice when its working. too old for really loud!
my views is either obscenely loud or not at all. i have a completely stock exhaust on my car, its so quiet and dosent draw any unwanted attention. stealthy skids ftw
